I am worried and sad.

Hey there, welcome to the forums.

Sorry to hear about your panther. That's cool that you have so many chameleons, though :)

If you just got him a few months ago I'd say he definitely could've started off with it before... it really takes its time to build up and then once it gets to the bad stages, it hits hard. That happened to my girlfriend's bearded dragon just a week ago...

Apparently it's cure able. I don't know how much I believe that, but if you give your panther enough of the right supplements it might go back to normal or at least close. It takes a lot of time and dedication, however, but it seems that you have that.

Definitely talk to your vet tomorrow and see what they say.

It might also do you some good to post some pics of your panther and fill out a "how to ask for help" form so we could give you more specific advice based off of the info we see there.

Here's the link to that: https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/

Goodluck.

Why do you think he has MBD? What symptoms are you seeing? Could you describe your lighting and supplementation? Just a thought...most of your other chams are montane species (maybe except the melleri) and their supplementation schedules are different than a panther's. Montane species tend to be more sensitive to oversupplementation particularly with vitamins. If your lighting is correct for the other species it should have been OK for a panther.

So, unless he had ongoing MBD before you got him and your husbandry wasn't enough to halt its progression, something else could be going on here.

BTW, MBD isn't really curable in the sense that you can reverse prior damage. It can be treated so it doesn't progress any further. Many chams end up with some degree of MBD if their newbie keepers got poor husbandry info at the start.

jannb and all who replyd thx u so much great article on mbd. yes I have done a lot of research n spoke to a vet where I have n appt. tomorrow - he was completely fine so I thought beautiful colors , shed twice , growing , I saw him eat never swa his tounge come out but like I say he looked great. sunday I saw a fat buldge by base of tail , Monday he had trouble dropping a sperm plug but it passed he pooped n then I saw he was shakey n walking funny in just a few days he can bearly walk n I noticed all the bent rounded knees ect. I googled n looked up pics signs n utube vieos of mbd n its definatly that I just don't know how in just days it got so bad - just hope vet can get him baack on track. im great w most animals have worked in animal field for over 20 years - I am not that good on computer , so I am just learning so bear w me till I figure out how to post pics ect. but all the imput u can get from the forum is great. will check back in tomorrow after vet.

MBD doesn't just get bad in a few days....the calcium imbalance builds up over time until the bones become so bad that they can't support the weight or stress on the them and the bones show the results by curving and/or breaking....or the muscles are weak enough that the tongue won't shoot out or the female can't lay her eggs, etc. If just seems to happen suddenly.

As kinyonga said, MBD isn't sudden.

Can you post photos of your cham. and fill out the how to ask for help form and paste it here please?
