Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum , however I have been reading on here for some time now.
I have a veiled chameleon named Benji who I took off a friend who was giving him adequate care , so i estimate hes about 4 years old now and i have had him for a few years.( i got him when he was about 1 i think).
Yesterday when i went to feed him i noticed that he wasn't able to support himself and is very unstable on his feet. i have also noticed some bowing in his two front legs also.
A little more about benji:
Ever since i got him, he has had issues with his aim and can not stick his tongue out more than an inch or so .( not sure why, but ive recently learned the previous owner did something incredibly stupid and would smoke weed and blow it in benji's face! I was so angry when i found this out!)
i feed him ever 2 days a variation of superworms, crickets, and occasionally wax and hornworms( he loves hornworms) i usually dust once a week with calcium
i also offer fresh fruit and veggie salad with spinach, melon, broccoli, cucumbers, ect.
today he seemed even worse very lethargic, unable to hold him self and dragging his body. I removed everything from his cage and thoroughly cleaned it , I've removed his vines because I'm scared he may fall.
since it was a warm sunny day we went out and sat in the sun for a good hour or so which he enjoyed.
I've also replaced the uvb bulbs in his hood ( they were over 6 months old making me think that they may be loosing the ability to give off the uvb rays?) and I got a water supplement with calcium that I've added to his waterfall, and another calcium and vit D3 powder supplement
I also have a basking lamp which is on a timer
I am really hoping i will be able to correct this on my own, i was also looking in to getting solar drops a liquid vit d supplement. but I'm reading some bad comments about this? What are your thoughts? * it claims to help reduce and even reverse MBD(http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2752427#prodTab1
If you have any recommendations on how i can help reverse this Please help!!
Thanks!!!
