Me First Cham

LoLo! I'm just a newbie asking the same old newbie questions~ I guess your used to it by now. First, I will describe my situation.

I am a reptile loving teenaged girl in the sping-time of youth. For a special occasion I will be getting a chameleon instead of a ps3. I think it's a wise choice, chameleons are so much more... colorfull? Or maybe it's the fact that they just have loads of that rare thing, personality. So, I have already raised two leopard geckos (first attemp and seccesfull breeding with reptiles, but they are easy) and two corn snakes (same thing) and I'm hopeing this is enough experience to start in the chameleon world. Not breeding of course!

Now on to the chameleon I'm getting. It's a little guy from the wowtastic people of KAMMERFLAGE KREATIONS, a little baby Bilbo boy to be exact. Panthers are so colorfull! Not to mention an all around funky chameleon. From all the many things I've read, heard, and experienced, KAMMERFLAGE is a great place to get a chameleon. Their chameleon packages are also amazing! Easy to set up and understand. All I had to add were a ficus, a 2 year old indoor hibiscus, not-cicada-egg-filled thin branches (suprisingly hard in Illinois with all of those 17 year old things) and a fake vine or two. That again is good! Or so I hear.

So the awesome people of the forums, tell me, is this good. I'll make it better if need be. The little baby must live!

Woah, such fast and nice replys. They made me relise that I forgot to mention that I already have everything in place. Oh woah is me, I am far too cryptic! How would you have known? Shame on myself. Also, the little blue/green guy's gonna arrive this week. Perfect, no?

My only suggestion would be get the care package sent prior to the cham.

I just bought one from them and am extremely pleased. You will definitely love him. I ordered one of the juveniles from Little Banana (ambilobe).

They are great to work with and I am sure that you can work something out with them regarding the shipping (discounted). Figuring the startup package could be sent via ground it shouldn't be a big deal. They are responsible breeders and am sure would rather you have everything set up prior to getting the chameleon.

I firmly believe that patience is the key to success with chameleons. (or any other animal)

While Angus' advice is very good, I'm not sure it would be all that necessary to ship seperately if that's not how the Kammers usually do it. The cage should be easy enough to set up while your baby waits comfortably on a house plant or something. The main thing is to provide a temperature range inside the cage. Chameleons are very good at regulating their own temperatures when given the chance, even babies.

Also, you just can't go wrong with a male panther from the Kammers as your first. As for the plants, make sure you wash any new ones well to remove pesticides. If the plants are going to be kept inside, you will probably have much better success with Schefflera than Ficus plants. They don't need as much light and are more forgiving of watering conditions.
