Mealworms/Beatles

Was just wondering if I let my meal worms change into beatles if it's okay to still feed to my Cham ?

i do. just make sure you have some apple or romaine lettuce for the beetles.
they are thirsty when they morph. my minion loves the beetles!

Just be sure to limit them as treats, I'm sure the beetles are even less nutritous since they store less food and are have more chitin than even the mealworms themselves.

the 'beatles' are the super worms right???? or do they turn into something else hehe im new to this so just asking questions. In my crickets I found a little baby cricket (dead) it was the size of like 1-2 cm i have no idea how, i bought 50 crickets i hope that wasnt one! haha thanks pet co.

Hah, the beetles (Not the band Beatles :p) are just that, beetles. Superworms are a whole different species, and they turn into beetles too. (BIG beetles, lol)

Egg > Mealworm > Pupae > Beetle (And so on)

They have much more chitin... Feel one, almost tough as nails!
I just let them do the life cycle thing, but I don't feed them to my green guy. I've seen, up close & personal, how chitin can hurt a chame & I HATE when they food strike as a result of getting mouth hurt.

chameleons are perfectly capable of eating "hard" shelled feeders, like beetles, snails etc. It is not a problem for them at all, so long as this type of food doest form the majority of the diet.

am so glad I found this thread, I have offered meal worms before but was always so nervous to do that coz of everything I read about chitin but sometimes I cant get to the store b4 they close to get crickets and sometimes they will not eat the roaches and well.. I have to offer something! Not that I am thinking about offering the beetles I heard they were bitter but just makes me feel a little better about the worms.

Sandra, where are you getting kelp, dandelion and organic coconut? Health food store? I have found everything else but those items! :)

Dandelion is a weed that grows year round in my vegetable garden :)
Its a very nutritious plant, easy to grow in a moderate climate. Some places sell it in grocery stores, near the other salad greens like the lettuce.

Kelp powder I get at a bulk feed store that supplies for goat, sheep, chickens, horses, etc. You might also find it at garden centres, since it makes a good soil aditive too. Im also able to get it direct from a harvester on the island where I live. Health food stores would sell it, but you'd pay way too much.

Coconut I buy in a bag from the local Safeway / Sobey / Thrifties - whatever grocery store Im in.

Everyone up north has all those yummy nutritious greens known as WEEDS. Here in Florida we don't have anything but asiatic hawksbeard, lol.

EDIT: Forgot, we do have loads of purslane. How would this do as a gutload?
