Hi, just wondered if the beetles that the mealworms turn into are ok for a veile cam to eat?? Carmen ( my cam) dosent show a awful lot of interest in mealworms at times and once or twice they have turned into the beetle before I was able to remove them from her cage. Could these cause her harm x

yes, absolutely the beetles are fine for chameleons to eat. Probably dont want to offer a large number of them to her at once, but a few here and there are certainly okay if she wants them!

Are you sure they're ok to feed off? Whenever I find one that's turned into a beetle in Hawk's cage I remove it and it releases a very foul smell . It just about brings water to my eyes.

She doesn't eat them really anyway I try to get them out when they are the white cacoon thing but just incase I miss one I want to be sure x

i had an issue with one of these beetles a while back. i had a thread about it, like brandon said they release a foul smell. but if you look close they actually spray a liquid from glands near their rear they use it as deffense from predators. anywayz i had one of these beetles on my cage and im pretty sure it sprayed my chams eye. he had it closed for a day or so and kept rubbing it for a couple more. i got alot of people say this has never happened to them before but im 99.9999% sure the beetle was the cause.

Ok thank u it's just nice to get some advice especially from wit experiences! Like i said I do try to remove them when they are those white cacoon things x

the beetles are absolutely safe for chameleons to eat, though
not all chameleons will eat them.
gutload the beetles to make more nutritious.
The defensive smell that darkling beetles emit is not dangerous
