Meet Mickey Mouse!

Janet

No you are to just to have to keep looking for that book. Although I think there is a couple edition 1's maybe a 2 for sale on Amazon. I would have to look again to confirm that the Calumma malthe article is in edition 1.

I am going to the city tonight meaning an answer I would expect tomorrow.

Best Regards
Jeremy A. Rich

Thank you!

Here is the pic of Mickey Mouse Jeanpierre on my head. I swear he was like a bullet coming out of his box. He was on my head before I could get him on my hand! Cool guy!

You did get a picture! You didn't see him standing tall on his long hind legs using his tail for support and opening his little arms wide to the side on your head. I've never seen a chameleon stand the way he did. I've never seen a chameleon open his arms wide like a person, either. I wish you could have gotten a picture of him like that. It was so darn cute.

I wish info on these guys wasn't so scarce. I'd be willing to take the plunge if not for that. Very beautiful animal.

Did I understand correctly when I read that they can open/flare out their "ears" as a part of a threat display?

How are you malthes doing?

I think he is doing well. @ JPowell86 has seen him twice since I bought him, the last time being a little over a week ago, and Joel seems really happy with him. I'm not as happy with him as Joel is. I didn't think I had his set up right. I've now changed his cage again, this time putting him in a big Exo-terra (36" x 36" x 18") in my dining room where it is a bit warmer. He has some parasite issues I need to tackle now. He worried me a lot because he stayed in the dark very low in the cage in light cover. I've been in touch with another person who has them and that seems sort of typical. I really don't know what he wants. I don't know his temperatures or water requirements. I'm worried he is not getting any UVB from the lights. I know too little about him and too little about his colors to be comfortable that I am doing anything right.

He's currently set up in my dining room and I'm hoping he comes out a bit more so I can enjoy him. If not, I'll put a lot of orchids in the enclosure so I can at least enjoy them!

Here's Mickey Malthe's latest set up. His favorite spot in this enclosure is above the feeding cup but below the birds nest fern. He's actually sitting there when the picture was taken. I'm going to try to get the foliage so he can be totally hidden from me but still get some UVB. I tried all kinds of plant arrangements from almost nothing but bare branches low and lots of cover high up to cover from top to bottom. He always stayed low and in the shadows so I don't have a lot of cover high in the enclosure that will block the light. As the plants grow up, I'll take out the pots of things tied to the branches. I'll put in a lot of phalaenopsis orchids. I miss my orchids; they are such a joyful plant. I used to keep hundreds when I lived in the Virgin Islands.

I love his eyes. You can see a lot of the iris although this picture doesn't show it very well. The tips of his toes are that same bright green. He's such a pretty, elegant creature.

He's very shy, but maybe he'll come around. I'll put a bit of effort into taming him and see if I can't get him so I can at least see him in his cage more often. Or not. His choice.

Mickey is looking great. Thanks for posting updated pictures. He is showing great camouflage colors in the picture where he is on the branch with the lichens. This species does seem to prefer to stay in the thick cover. They seem to ascend when they are basking or hunting flies. That has been the case with mine and a couple other keepers I have talked too. This species Calumma malthe seems similar in husbandry and habits to Trioceros montium.

i keep mine in heavy foliage. UVB and 6500k light. Temps 60-70 at night low 80s day. Misting several times a day for 20-30 minutes. My montiums are right next to them.
