Meet Walker Warren Smith

So sometimes Walker likes to puff his chin out. It worries me a little bit. He does it when I'm not in the room. I'll walk in and find him puffed up.

I also got him to hand feed. Actually, my mom did. He hadn't yet touched his crickets so she picked one up and held it in front of him and he took it right away! So that's how I fed him some other crickets. My mom took a video of it, but I'm unable to attach it at this moment. I will attach it when I can.

I wouldn't be too concerned. Males will sometimes do this when they do not feel secure, its a defense tactic of making them look bigger and tougher.

When did you get Walker? If he is a newly introduced member of your family, I'd say to give him some time to relax. He looks be a baby still, and is most likely feeling a bit exposed, threatened, insecure and/or stressed. Try and make him feel as comfortable as possible by making sure he has plenty of places to hide. Also, make sure that there isn't a mirror or another chameleon nearby!

He may be puffing up to increase his surface area and absorb more UVB and heat. If you check the side turned to the light you may see that he has darkened it as well to absorb even more.

This is only his third day with me. I'm not super worried because I know I'm freaking out over every little thing. He has a lot of places to hide. Before, there was nothing on his baking branch, but I had an extra vine laying around and ever since I wrapped it around the branch, he's been using his basking spot. Also, there are no mirrors where he can see himself or any other chameleons. He is a single dude.

Probably, that would make sense. For whatever reason it may be, there's nothing wrong with the little guy. Just continue to do whatever you are doing and he'll be very happy
