OK - let's try this again...... third time's the charm, right?
YAY!! After Newbie layed 74 eggs in June that were infertile and 92 eggs in September that were, again, infertile...... folks, we have a winner! ..... wait for it......wait for it...... 60 LARGE, WHITE, PERFECT, BEAUTIFUL and FERTILE melleri eggs!! Ding, ding, ding...... (Well, it's really 59 because she must have stepped on one of them because it was somewhat crushed.)
I am so stoked this time because these eggs are perfect (she said as she knocks on wood and throws salt over shoulder....). My big Newbie is such a tank and lays these eggs without even batting an eye. And she is so a-typical about it, too. You would never know she was carrying because you can't see any bulges, she doesn't go off feed for any period of time (as a matter of fact, she consumed quite a few crix just that day) and she will not lay in a laying bin. She lays them in her food bucket and then goes right back up to a perch and is like, "where's my food?"
Here are a couple pics of her eggs. I transferred them from her food bucket to a temporary large bowl with leftover vermiculite mix from a batch of eggs I had just a few days ago while I ran out to get some perlite. I decided to separate them out into groups of 15 and did half in perlite and half in vermiculite. No reason for this, it was just because. I have heard and read different things, so I'm trying both. The last picture is of Newbie after she was done (and tired).
