This guy is a good example of very poor husbandry. We brought him home a week ago with severely infected back feet and tail. He had been kept in a small cage with nothing to climb on, substrate that was wet, one light that I'm not quite sure what it did. His previous owner said that his back and tail and one foot had been swollen like that since she got him a couple months prior. She didn't realize it was a problem. She meant well, she just didn't know any better. She did take him to the vet a couple days before we got him but things were already far advanced by that time.

This photo was taken after our vet visit yesterday. He had his feet and back drained as much as possible. I take him out into the sun daily. He is eating and drinking and has a very sweet personality. He will be on antibiotics for some time with frequent vet visits for draining his infected areas.

Awww poor guy, melleri's are such great chams sad it happened to him but I'm glad he is in good hands now! I'd like to see more pics of him, was the wet ground the cause of the swollen feet/tail or was something else the cause?

Thanks everyone. I'm sure he'll be fine eventually - it's just a long road and as everyone knows it's more enjoyable to interact with healthy animals (and keep them that way) instead of having to see one go through this long term ....

The substrate was wet because his previous owner thought that cage had to be wet all the time. I think people misunderstand humidity vs. drinking needs and how to acheive them.

Thank you but I can't take that much credit. I thought I was getting a healthy chameleon and found out last minute there were problems. It's a lot of work but I am hopeful for him.
