Maybe an old window screen if you have one

I know hope depot/Lowe’s also sells window screens of all sizes so maybe you can buy one and recut it?

Be aware mesh filters out uvb light so you either/or might want to research your mesh or maybe get a 12% bulb and raise it a lil?

i have a 12% stick bulb yknow the long ones but was gonna get a 6% should i be worried if i get mesh about the 6%? or will it be okay for a period of time

It is aluminum screen you want. You can get it in black, but probably have to ordre on line. For plain aluminum, I think even Walmart has it or any hardware store.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with black on top.
It'll absorb more heat and may be reason to raise the lights.

Aluminum window screening will work well. I don’t see that a 12% uvb is needed. Yes, some uvb is filtered by the screen and that is taken into account already. A 5.0 or 6% uvb will be fine.

I agree it would be the aluminum window screen. And you would not go to a 12% bulb. You would use a 5.0 or 6% bulb and basking would be 9 inches below the fixture for a 3 UVI level that they need.

also check out harware cloth it is stronger at HD or Lowes

Hardware cloth has larger openings... You can not rely on the normal distance to basking recommendations to ensure a proper UVI level because it does not reduce at 40% the way aluminum window screen will. It is recommended that a solarmeter 6.5 be used when using any material like this to ensure that the UVI level at basking is not in dangerous exposure levels.
