Mice?

I keep seeing videos in Instagram of people feeding chameleons mice. Pinkies. Even seen a fuzzy. This is not good for them correct? Due to the high protein?

And I'm assuming the bones are not good for them

Idk but on a few sites i seen them telling people that you can feed your cham pinky mice. i don't think its good so I'm not goin to do it. what happens if one of the bones come out and poke through the chams skin? not good.

No no no no NO.

People say it's "fine" because they eat little animals in the wild, but they don't understand that chameleons are insectivores. Maybe once a month is fine for a protein boost, but some chams have gotten gout and liver problems because their owners would feed them a mouse a week.

Also, because of bones, there is a risk of impaction

I read on here a while back that a few people would do this once a month or so as a treat just to change up the diet, as well as baby birds i think. I once even read that someone watched their cham eat a humming bird once... As long as you aren't doing it more than once a month you should be O.K.

Personally I wouldn't do it for safety reasons and also the fact that the mouse may be carrying disease which is no good ! I wouldn't trust it just keep with the feeders :) in my opinion

I'd just like to clarify I'm not feeding my chams mice lol not now, not ever. Those videos were horrifying. It doesn't bother me when snakes eat mice, but for some reason when those chams ate them I was totally grossed out.

I'm not going to either. It isn't right. if they need something like that then there are vitamins and suppliments for that. it could cause harm in the end so why do it.?

Some people use Button Quail to feed their chams, since they about the size of a quarter when they're young.

I was at the herp vet last week, they had the "care guides" the specifically "did" mention mice.. give them on occasion..

no mention of no D3, sooo... another conflict and this time not just at a "petstore"

I think as a rare boost, post laying, or perhaps a rare treat.. but really not a good choice as even in the wild where would a cham find a nursing rodent?? as a small nursning animal the amount of calcium in the bones is less.. also with a milk filled gut ( milk is acidic) as such you loose Calcium into your urine to process it.. so even with a belly full of milk, DONT think it is a good source of Ca.. fat, Protien, perhaps.. but not Ca..

A small lizard or small bird, but not a pinky or fuzzy.. would be more "natural" but as many cham owners do fine never offering these things..

Keep in mind the internet has a lot of info.. same with youtube.. but this is the same place you see people lighting farts.. also proof we have a base on the moon where alien secrets are shared :)
