Misting and cage setup

I noticed that everyone has there misting times a couple of minutes at a time. I currently have mine:
7am for a min
9am for a min
11am for a min
1pm for a min
3pm for a min
5pm for a min
7pm for a min

How do you guys deal with water build up on the bottom of the cage. I just ordered a cage water tray to catch the excess water and now thinking of getting like a vacuum pump to pump out excess water into a waste bin. Is there a pump out there to vacuum pump out water from my cage water tray?

Please advise.

A simple way to set up drainage is to drill small holes on the cage floor and place a plastic bin underneath to catch the excess water. Heres a pic of how I have mine.

Question for supergirl

Hey i like the stands that your cages are set on, can you tell me where you got them.. they are nice and simple and not too bulky. thanks

My 2x2x4 is set on the exact same shelving. Works great! I just use two shelves, one to set drain bin, and one to set the cage on. :)

It's funny I just sent super girl a pm about the racks but I should've kept reading thread thanks super girl.

How do you keep the water from getting all over the wall and floor during mistings?

the water goes into the bin, nothing ends up on the floor. I placed a black garbage bag behind the cages so that the wires/walls don't get too wet. but when I mist I try not to aim for the wall :D

I also have a shelving unit like yours. Right below I also have a plastic tub below the cage to catch water. Only thing that's i have different is that the bottom of the cage I replaced the original bottom with a sheet of plexiglass. I drilled a bunch of 5/8 holes in it for water drainage. Figures right after that my baby Veiled had fallen into my water tub that night I arrived home from work. Easy solution, I cut another 16 x 16 sheet of mesh screen above the plexi glass. This would keep the chameleon out of my water tub!! My poor baby was all black and stressed out in the thin layer of water that day.

I will post pics of my setup hopefully soon.

Hi, I am planning on using these same shelves! :) Would 2 18x18x36 reptibreeze fit side by side using the 4 tier shelving unit you have?? I know its 36 long but dont know if the side vertical tubes will be in the way..... Since you have yours all setup it might be easier to figure out.... :) thanks!!!

You may find more drinking taking place if you run 3-4 times a day, with longer settings. I run 4 settings at 6 minutes each, which on 2 cages produces about 5 gallons per cage, per week.

Agreed. Mine take a few minutes to get used to the mist and settle in for heavy drinking. I found out early on that a minute was not nearly enough. Also, even though I keep montain species, I do make sure that the cage can dry out a bit between mistings. Setting it too frequently would keep it constantly wet.

Would you consider it sturdy? I've been looking for a stand like this that will hold a 2x2x4, but they all seem to be around 16" deep. is that enough?
