Misting :D

So I got a Mist King Starter Kit, YAY. I was hoping for some timer suggestions that will strongly benefit the humidity, but keep the cage relatively dry. He has a dripper that I have seen him drink from on multiple occasions so I don't need the mister for anything but humidity. Any Ideas?????:D:D:D

Well, since you have a Veiled chameleon, you aren't going to need as much humidity as other species. I would probably let it run twice a day for maybe 2 minutes. It is important to let the enclosure dry before the next misting cycle. Many make the mistake of keeping the enclosures constantly wet...which for Veileds, in the long run will cause URI and can cause fungal issues. I think that you will just have to experiment with the misting cycles and see what suits your cham the best. Congrats on the new Mistking....you won't be disappointed.

Yea you don't want to keep the cage too wet from what I understand about veileds. They come from Yemen and Saudi Arabia. So not much rainfall and mostly hot and dry. you just want to give them enough water to drink off of leaves and to keep the humidity around 50%. My veiled gets most of her water from greens that I wet before I put them in her cage (like kale and romaine leaves). She doesn't seem to like getting misted at all, so I try not to do it very much. I also keep a modified humidifier near her cage so the air isn't extremely dry in the winter months.

I don't really have much of a drainage system... won't two minutes of misting make everything pretty wet?? Like for mould growth ect.

What kind of habitat do you have? You could make a simple drainage system. Two minutes of misting may make things really wet but will sometimes easily dry out depending on the enclosure and air circulation in the area that they are in.

I have a glass enclosure
Soil mixture on bottom covered with polished Mexican pebble
Plants in soil and a pothos in a earthen pot hanging near top

I mist twice a day for two minutes
It dries after 90 minutes or so and the soil is dry to the touch.... It probably is barely sustaining the plants

With no drainage setup you can mist 4-6 times a day for 30 seconds and see how that works. Try every two hours or so and don't mist right before lights out. This can help prevent mold and mildew forming overnight. I did something similar when I started out before I put drainage in and it worked great.

Thanks! I'll probably try that:D
