Misting Versus a shotglass?

Hi there,

I was recently browsing the chameleon subreddit over at http://www.reddit.com/r/chameleons and I noticed that the owner and moderator there has a "Chameleon guide" That says that you should not mist your chameleons but train them to drink out of glasses.

I've always heard the opposite of what he was talking about, is there any merit to this?

Umm yeah Tiggles that would be a no go on the old shot glass :)
Your best bet would be sticking with the advice found on this forum...

I've heard of it being done but it sounds pretty ridiculous to me.. not to mention the humidity benefits of misting. I used to have a water fall (unsanitary I know) in one of my veiled cages and it freaking loved that thing but again that's moving water not still water in a cup.. but I'm sure it could be done

That's what I thought, It seems wrong for one of a forum with 1600 readers to be given improper advice.

Reddit is one of the biggest websites today and I'll be honest before I found this great place and did my research here I went to the chameleon forum on reddit to look around.

Now, I know that this guy is a loon but other people may take his little guides about swimming chameleons and drinking out of bowls to heart and seriously hurt their animals.

Last time someone posted something against what he was said they downvoted/hid his post so no one could see it.

Is their any way we can resolve this?

If someone wanted to teach a cham to drink out of a container it isn't a huge deal, but this terrible advice is missing the whole point of humidity. Unless you mist the CAGE the humidity level will never be what it should be (unless you happen to live in an indoor rainforest).

What about providing the reddit group a link to these forums instead of disagreeing with the moderator specifically? That way the group could choose to come here and decide for themselves.

Sounds like that person has been hitting the shot glass. Chameleons can be trained to drink from anything when they are dying of thirst. A well hydrated chameleon will not drink that way, nor will they take to the training, because they are not thirsty.

You'd get banned for posting otherwise.

Why don't you copy and paste Mike's post on the other site...inquiring minds wanna know if it's ban worthy : )/.

I'll work on a study to find out if chams can teach their owners drink from a shot glass....very worthy scientific research that I'm sure will have a cult following haha.

It does not harm.

It does not harm to introduce a small vessel with some water that you change daily to your enclosure, as if for some reason your cam can not use his/her tongue they can still rely on that water.

However misting and drippers any day of the week :)
