Misting vs humidifier

I understand chameleon needs misting but is there preference one over the other one or both are needed? I just wondering to see if i should buy both for my 4 year old veild chameleon. Thanks chameleon family

If I could only have one I would get the misting system and use it for long mistings early and late day with a couple of shorter midday mistings to provide drinking opportunities.
If got both I would add a cool mist humidifier to use over night to reduce hydration losses to running the HV/AC or dry climate and aid the overnight temperature drop. If I didn't have the humidifier I would have to have lots of live plants.

I’m always for misting. My plants in there cause enough humidity on their own, but misting also gives water that the chameleons use as their water source (for chams that won’t drink from drippers) or a secondary water source. Honestly, I kinda feel like a humidifier would be way more helpful in areas that are dry. Like, I live in Indiana so most of the year, it’s really humid, so I don’t need that extra help.

@JacksJill would you use a humidifier even if your night humidity was in the 80-90% for a montane? Been debating on whether or not to use one during our summers which are above average humidity.

Sorry don't mean to hijack! I agree with the others though, mister should definitely be priority with the morning/before lights out mistings. If that isn't doing it for humidity, look into more live plants and possibly a humidifier.

I wouldn't if you are that close to the 90% range. We just don't get that here often and if I have to run the AC forget it. Outdoors inside the plants is probably going to be pretty good but you hygrometer will let you know.

Lol I am one of those people that refuses to run the AC cause i love the humidity. Wife wanted to kill me the day it was 95 degrees and I kept it off.

A little of both, but I shut off the ac to the cham rooms anyway and open the windows. I just hate paying the AC bill, and I hate the winter so much I never take the heat for granted and complain.

Thanks guy for you comment. My cham is in my room and we run the ac constant because its to hot in Texas. So getting hum and dripper would be excellent idea.

Quick question fellow enthusiastic, do you guys use wood or any sort material on the side of the cage or behind to prevent the water hit the wall or the cage is naked meaning nothing on the sides. Thank you

Misting. That way they can have a drink. Also some type of Shower at least once a week. You will notice that during a shower they sometimes take a lengthy drink,clean their eyes and poop. To not do the shower thing is to do them a disservice. Make sure you have plants in the shower,monitor the water temperature and enough plants that they can get out of the water if they choose

I just do my mister(30+min) long once a week. Some of my chams hate the shower.

That’s funny. I’ve never had a chameleon that didn’t like a shower in 20 years. But you do never know with these creatures. I’ve kept mostly montane chameleons. They go their own way

@waynek my parson's love the shower, but the Panthers not so much.they'll usually tolerate it at best.
