Misting

But I already have a humidifier I don't want to waste money. (Don't say that chameleons need a lot of money to take care of and if you're not willing to spend a lot of money then don't get one.)

Well, that is the truth. I understand not being able to be home at certain times, but it's not hard to find a cheap mister. You don't have to spend $80+ on the ones at PetSmart and places like that.

I'm sure temporarily and placed correctly, a humidifier could work, but it wouldn't be the best thing for him/her.

Yeah the mist king is definitely what you should look at getting. It's NOT a waste of money. I use a starter setup with a zip drip valve.

I vote no on that one :p If humidifiers worked for hydration purposes, people would be using them instead of misters to save $$$. Humidifiers just increase humidity and alter temperature, but chameleons need water droplets to drink. Also, how would you monitor the humidifier if you're not at home? Those things can be scary :p

The starter MistKing is definitely worth your splurge. For me, it's giving up fancy restaurant dinners and fast food for a month, and it's worth it. I also got the rain valve as an inexpensive add-on so that I could have rain drops rather than just mist :)

Unfortunatly the above is true. Once you have all the equipment your costs go down but vets bills can be hefty and you should be prepared.

the zip drip things is a waste of money :) dont need it, whats wrong with a little bit of dripping?

If you can't be at home in the morning and afternoon, could you use a humidifier for misting?

Getting back to the actual answer to this question...a humidifier will raise the moisture content of the AIR, but it won't provide enough condensed running water droplets for the cham to drink unless the cage is entirely enclosed and it runs constantly...not a good idea.

Humid air will slow down the rate at which your cham gets dehydrated...but if it can't actively drink as long as it wants at least once a day it's health will suffer. If you can't spray the cage heavily for drinking during the day when the cham is awake and active, you'll have to automate some sort of mister when you are not there. Can anyone else spray your cage during the day?

I ordered the Rain Dome from Aquazamp, can't wait to get it! Most days we can mist him 3 x, but I will feel much better with something I can set for more. Hopefully I can get rid of the humidifier too...

A mistking is in no way a waste of money, its not even an expense, even though its expensive. It's an investment.
