Mistking Clogging despite RO water

Hi All,

I have reverse osmosis in my house and this past week my nozzle has clogged up now 3 times . I soak it in vinegar each time over the course of a few hours an it becomes unclogged, but this is pretty inconvenient when my cham is not getting watered all day while I am gone to work. I have dealt with this 3 times now and I really don't like my guy going without water for several hours when this happens. He drinks so much when I get home and turn his dripper on to a faster speed. Any ideas on what is going on?

I did learn from a mistake in the past at my old house by using tap water, was a no no and had to buy a new nozzle. Have since then either used distilled and now I use RO water which is what Marty recommended when I had my first issue. This nozzle has been fine for months on RO water and now its just doing the random clogging. I have never cleaned the water reservoir but it looks and feels super clean inside.

Have you unscrewed the little tip to the nozzle to see if something like hair or other debris isn't just stuck to the screen? I thought my water reservoir was pretty clean until I got a clog and I checked the nozzle itself after vinegar did nothing and it was totally clogged with my dog's hair. They have long, wavy white hair so it must get in the reservoir somehow and I don't even see it. So I have since purchased a lid!

I've got to agree with Olimpia, it sounds like some debris has got caught up in your system - perhaps from your reservoir. I've been using my new MistKing setup for 6 months with tap water, with no problems / clogs. I used my other nozzles for well over a year with tap water and only had to clean one nozzle, once. I'm obsessed with keeping my reservoir lid on tight! No debris, no light, no algae!

No hair in there

I took the system apart and the clog is at the nozzle. When I take off the nozzle, I turn on the system and water gushes out perfectly and as soon as I put the nozzle on it does nothing. I just took it all apart today and soaked everything in vinegar so we will see if it stays unclogged!

That really sounds like something other than mineral deposits is clogging your spray heads. I live in FL and we have very high mineral content to the tap water and I would estimate that I use tap water 70percent of the time. My spray heads have white deposits but have never clogged in over 2 years.

If you unscrew the spray nozzle there is a tiny screen inside. Check that for debrit.

It could be carbon fines from the ro unit. New carbon filters need to be flushed in ro units.

I use the mistking system with only distilled with closed reservoir . Over the past 3 yrs ive had multiple clogs, all at nozzles. Ive tried soaking in vin. and many other ideas to no avail. eventually reduced to purchasing new nozzles multiple times.

most of the time it's reservoir grime and dead insect parts that get sucked up. Many people have issues with fruit flies falling into the water. If you use RO water then there is no need to soak nozzles in vinegar. You're probably getting clogged just by junk getting sucked in. Vinegar would only be useful to dissolve the minerals after months of use of tap or mineral water. Keep that reservoir covered and spotless.

So I can actually unscrew the nozzle? I did not know this!!! I will clean the reservoir and check that tomorrow, because its just plain clogged up and not doing anything today!

Unscrewing the nozzle

I used a 13mm socket to unscrew the nozzle.

Its fairly easy to lift the screen out using a fine tip needle like a safety pin or sewing needle.

When you re-assemble the nozzle you should apply some thread tape (Available at local hardware store) to help seal the connection.

I took everything apart today and there is no junk any where. The screen looks brand new and shiny still. Cleaned out all the connectors and the reservoir. Everything was sparkly and the nozzle STILL didn't work. So I ordered my 3rd nozzle from misting depot as they have a much cheaper shipping option. So hopefully a new one fixes the problem. Just frustrating that there appears to be nothing wrong and it still doesn't work and this is my 3rd nozzle!!!Kinda wish they would just sell the very tip of the nozzle for a couple bucks instead of buying the whole nozzle assembly, I have a bunch of extra parts from those!

Are you sure maybe it's not your tubing that's clogged up?

Nope, I even cleaned that out. My tubing is very short on 4 ft. Oh well. I have an my first nozzle on but it tends to flood the cage cause it does have a messed up nozzle from me messing with it a year ago. Just going to wait for the new one. I figured I took it all apart, nothing was clogged anywhere, no junk cause there shouldn't be any since we have RO water and the reservoir stays sealed shut. I think I am really impatient while being pregnant so I don't want to do any more searching, not that there is any that I can think of. My cham is happy and I am spoiling him by having to spray him so often myself. He was frisky today and has tried to escape onto me every time I have opened his door today!

Maybe the culprit is a tiny particle that has passed through the screen and dislodges with the jostling done while removing the nozzle, but has not been permanently removed because it sticks inside the tip of the nozzle (on the side perhaps) due to the moisture present there.

Taking the nozzle apart, removing the screen, rinsing all parts under running water and then using of compressed air, blow the inside of the nozzle dry and blow through the nozzle hole from the outside should dislodge and remove anything.
It would be wise to rinse the screen, as well.

I'd be surprised if the problem is in the nozzle and this didn't fix it.
