Mistking vs reptifogger for baby Veiled

Hi Cham lovers!

I need to get an automatic misting system for my Veiled Cham, Winslow as I'm going out of town for 2.5 days in August.

It looks like the mistking is most popular on this site. I've also been looking at the reptifogger but not sure if that is suitable for a veiled cham?

It is something I would only really need for the times I'm away, so I'm trying to spend as little as possible. I'm thinking of the reptifogger to set up just before I leave so it works while I'm gone but can keep it off and manually mist with spray bottle normally.

The mistking would be nice though, because I could set it and forget it so that is an option I'm considering.

What about the temperature of the water, is it going to be stressful to Winslow if it is too cold? I'm using warm water now.

Also, how often does the mistking need to be filled? How often does the reptifogger need to be filled?

Go with a mistking you want mist not fog. Plus the fog tends to sink to the bottom and if you have a mesh cage it won't stick around. With the mistking they sell you a pump and the tubing and nozzles along with it, you provide the water canister. I personally use a 5 gal Home Depot bucket and mist three times a day for a couple minutes, and with me only using it half full, it lasts a couple weeks. As far as heat you can put a heater in the water, by the time it sprays out it usually cools to a warm but I personally haven't had any issues without a heater so it's up to you.

I've found that for getting water into the chameleon, an automatic dripping system works better than the mist. The misting is great for raising humidity, but they can drink more if they have access to a steady slow flow of water instead of drops on leaves.

Mist King!!!! It is worth it! It is might more expensive but you'll love it! I guarantee!!! :)

So, I went to the reptile store by my house today and they sold me a ZooMed reptirain system as they didn't have the mistking in stock. The one I bought is a self contained unit and it hangs on the cage conveniently. It actually is working quite well. The store owner said he would take it back for a full year if I didn't like it. It was also only $80. So I'm trying it out. It works great so far.

The advantages I like about it are that it doesn't require a bucket to hold the water and it lasts about a week on the 15 min spray every 3 hours. This should do the trick.

I'll keep everyone posted on how it holds up.

Definately not the reptifogger it a piece of crap I've been threw four in a year then I gave up I use a squirt bottle I am very observant of the humity though it can drop quickly!! Exspecially in idaho lol but hes been doing just fine

I had the same dilemma. I didn't like the fogger because I felt like that didn't create the drops the cham's need on the leaves to drink. I know my cham especially loves that. I ended up going with a Exo Terra Monsoon RS400 Rainfall System. It's super easy to setup, has a large container for water, it's super easy to program, and i have it on a timer so literally i set it up once like a month ago and haven't touched it since.

Update- it works well, but not enough water storage. Very even misting nozzles are adjustable. Only downside is that it only holds enough water for about a day. I placed a water bottle upside down in the top and can get another day out of it, but its definitely ghetto rigged. I think I'm going to return it for the mist king.

Good choice. Mistkings quality and service is hard to beat. Got one last month and I love it probably one of the best investments for you and your chameleon.

For a veil use a drip system. For montane species (jax, fischers, etc...) use a reptifogger. For those having issues with zoomed reptifogger, i can only say follow the instructions. You must use distilled or ro water. You can replace the tab, if it fails. I have a lot of them and ALL still work perfectly, years later. And no, i have never replaced a single part or tab on one of them.
