its a samsung touch screen....all the ficus in my area are leafless b/c of whitefly.....found huge thrving strong money tree didnt buy it couldnt search properly and at whatever time i orignaly posted walmarts plant dep. was closed and i talked them into giving me a look around..in my opinion anyone who doesnt like to answer questions ove and over shouldnt try teaching anyone who wants to learn is going to ask a question that has already been asked i have seen old post from long time members that ask the same questions that have already been answered funny thing is that they were new too and its not that i dont like what young people have to say i didnt know that person was young i just hate when someone else has attitude and it is ok as long as they make a good point thats what gets me

How can you tell if they have attitude on the Internet? I can only tell through harsh/rude comments and words... But it didn't seem like he was being mean or had any attitude. I think it's just your perception, try looking at things from different angles. It's a good lesson to learn especially for the internet as it's not hard to take somehing the wrong way.

Can you please make an effort to use proper punctuation? It is difficult to read your posts because I cannot tell where one thought ends and another begins.

Also, next time I suggest doing a bit of research about plants before you get to the store and you won't find yourself in this situation again.

I'm not taking any sides here, but sometimes when you're out shopping for other stuff, you run across a great looking plant that you'd like to buy for your cham, but don't want to spend the money if it's not safe. I can use the search on my phone, but I don't know how Courtney's is set up, so if she's trying to get an answer while she's at the store, then she might be kinda limited in what she can do on her phone.

I guess the issue with the search on here is that it looks for keywords instead of a phrase. Another option from a smartphone would be to use google to seach for the phrase "is money tree safe for chameleon" and look to see if any pages from the chameleon forums come up. I can use the advanced google search on my phone and put a phrase and the site in. Not sure what Courtney's phone has since she didn't tell me the model/carrier :p

If I found a plant that I wanted and couldn't figure out if it was safe, I would probably ask them to hold it for me for a day or 2 and if they couldn't, I would make sure I could return it if it's not safe. That would give me a little bit of time to figure out if I wanted it or not.

I think a plants section should be added to the forum with some good posts stickied. Is there somewhere that I can formally suggest this? I see there's a live plant database, but there isn't a lot in it. Can we add more plants to it?

Another reason people get annoyed at answering the same question over and over is because it really clutters up the forums. On a site like this with how massive the forum is, it's hard to go through all the posts to find new information when so many of them say the same thing. Since I joined back in August, I've seen this exact question asked several times. Going back into older posts, I saw it even more.

So anyway, just throwing some suggestions out there :D

There is a plant section on the home page.

Are you talking about the live plant database? If so, there isn't much in it. I didn't see an actual separate forum to post about plants, just a post saying to post plant stuff in this section unless there's something else that I missed? :)

I think what it comes down to is laziness. If people just make a topic its way easier to get the answer to the question that they want simply because they just have to wait and refresh. I don't read half of the threads on here because it is all stupid questions that could be searched so easily. There is no problem with the search function when you know what your looking for. How hard is it to type money tree in the search, and figure out by the titles what thread will help you or not. It might be more complicated when you are searching for specific species information because searching "panther" would be bad. You would get tons of threads. Know what you are looking for, and make an educational guess to which thread to read. Look at Sandra. She is a searching machine! Im sure she is sick of answering the questions directly, but by doing a quick search she is able to give you 3-5 links to old threads that asked the same old thing. Do as Sandra says, try the search out.

And I agree with withlime. This is not first grade use a period for god sake.

I understand you want a quick answer to your question. What I think may be a little frustrating to some of the members on this forum is they see the same questions over and over again. This can get annoying to some. I understand this is a forum and these circumstances are bound to happen. I really dont think summoner and the others are getting hatefull with you. I think they are just trying to get you to do your research first to prevent repetitive questions. Dont take me wrong, because we have all probably done this before, but really the people here just want to help.

This is a community effort here... If you feel the live plant data base is lacking, then do some research and add your 2 cents to the database

As for there not being a lot of entries.... It kinda makes sense. There aren't a lot of plants we can get locally that are safe. Sure.... you could list allll of the plants that are safe in the world, but if you can't get them at your local nursery or home depot or Lowe's or OSH..... what is the point? Most people can get Ficus, hibiscus, scheflera and pothos.... Those are the only four kinds of plants I use... They are easy to find and easy to care for, and safe. Most people don't need much more than that because it works pretty well for the people in the hobby.

I am not saying 'the hell with a huge list, what we have is all you need'. But sometimes getting into it too deep just confuses people.

There is a thread for discussing the database... it has been around for almost three years. It is located at the top of this forum, as a sticky.

Live Plant Database

Well that's why I thought maybe it would be a good idea to have a plants only forum and sticky posts like "is a money tree safe" and "what kinds of plants are good for my chameleon?" because I've seen a bunch of posts like that haha.

I wasn't suggesting add every plant, because yeah that would be way too much, but maybe some of the plants more commonly asked about. Is that stickied post you link where we should suggest plants to be added?

I guess you haven't taken the time to click the link. If you follow the link, it has some instructions from Brad.

Don't worry, I will do the work for you ;):

Live Plant Database

This is a live plant list that covers commonly used and often asked about plants for chameleon enclosures. It is an evolving resource that is mostly the compilation of information provided by forum members. If you ever have suggestions for changes or additions, please post them in the specific [forum=12]feedback forums[/forum].

Because it is quite a trek for some I will do the work.....:cool:

Since you would have to go to the main forum: Chameleon Forums, then to the "Site Information" forum and THEN to the 'Feedback And Suggestions' sub-forum.... AND THEN into the sub-sub-forum called 'Live Plant DB' I will provide a simple link....

Live Plant DB

I think you misread my question. I obviously clicked the link since I specifically asked about things in the link and the database and specifically mentioned the post that was already there before you linked it. I'll keep my suggestions and questions to myself from now on. Don't worry about it.

If you do that the plant DB will never get any better!

I dunno, there may not be any help for it at this point! :D

anyway, there's the post you linked (which was the post I had mentioned in the first place) that has a link to the feedback section, but then the post in the plant DB in there says "This forum category is for suggestions on how to improve the live plant database. If you have found information that is incorrect or needs editing, this is the place to help out and post your advice. If you have a suggestion on how to improve the plant database, this too is the correct place to be. If you have questions on chameleons and live plants, please ask them in the forum located here: Enclosures And Supplies"

Now do you see why I'm confused as to where the heck we're supposed to post "add money tree to database please before everyone kills each other!" :)
