Monsoon misting

I was just wondering on the misting cycle I should set up on my Monsoon.

As I'm not really sure how humid chameleons like it and how much water should be in the enclosure during the day.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I would suggest you start at https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/chameleons/

basic requirements for all species is a bit different... and some, way different.
I would suggest you describe your enclosure, your species, the age, sex, lighting, enclosure humidity,.... so on... it would probably be best to fill out https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/
it can all play a big deciding factor in stuff like that..

The type of enclosure I have in an Exo-Terra type terrarium with several different type of fake plants and the exo-earth for the bottom of the enclosure.

The type of chameleon I have is a veiled and he is a juvenile at this moment.

He is placed in a good location in the house. That is free of drafts and not up against a window or where a door is located.

The temperature in the enclosure runs about 76.7 degrees F and about 20% humidity. I have a Exo-Terra thermometer/Hydrometer combo to measure this information.

I am located in Austin, Texas.

I have the light system that came with the cage with a UVB on one side and a blue basking light on the other side. I run the lights in a normal 8 hour cycle as I turn it on when I get up in the morning and turn it off when I go to bed and if I need to get a timer I can sure do that the only problem is the light fixture that came with the system only has one light switch that controls both lights. The bulbs I have are as follows Exo-Terra Reptile UVB 100 bulb and the Exo Terra 50W night heat lamp as that is what the reptile person at the pet store recommended as the heat source

I also have the Monsoon RS400 misting system.

I just got the chameleon so I don't know about his sex or fecal situation at this time.

I hope this information is helpful.

I would start by removing the substrate. chameleons are arboreal and dont really need it, in fact.. it can and does cause issues with impaction.

i would also try to get digital hygrometer and thermometer. the dial indicators are notoriously inaccurate.

Veiled are very easy when it comes to humidity(imho), almost any thing works... care-sheets: 40-70%. (https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/caresheets/veiled/)

in the near term, i would probably look at some of the linear tube lighting options, they last much longer, are more predictable, and generally considered safer for younger chams.
the light switch thing, is a good thing. chameleons need a good nights sleep, are cold hardy(actually some suggest they need a 10degree drop at night). i would definitely get a timer.

as far as a misting schedule, i have a female veiled, i use a mistking with 2 nozzles. i mist about 5-6 times a day, (not at home, cant look, dont remember). My first misting, about 30 minutes after lights on, for 30 seconds. about 2 hours after 1 minute, about 2 hours after 30 seconds... etc. i have a large enclosure tho, 2'x3'x4, planted with live plants, and a cool mist humidifier. https://www.chameleonforums.com/members/happy-albums-new-enclosure.html

Welcome to Chameleons.

Your temps are a little low I think. Also your lighting schedule is too short. It needs to be 12 hours on/12hours off. No lights at night not even heat lamps. You do not need fancy basking lights. A regular incandescent or halogen bulb will work for heat. I think your UVB might be a little strong but not sure off the top of my head. Pretty much disregard everything the pet store told you and follow the care sheets under the Care resources on the left side of the page. Also what are you feeding? How much, how often and what supplements are you using?

Ok this may be a dumb question but I have the Exo-Terra dual thermometer/hydrometer combo and I don't know where to place the sensor to get the most accurate reading.

i replaced the blue night bulb I go with a basking light but in the light fixate I have it is on it's side not facing straight down if that makes sense.

The UVB light I have is this model Reptile UVB 100 it says tropical UVB and it is made by Exo-terra and it is a 13w bulb.

I feed the chameleon crickets that I feed the Flukers quencher and Flukers cricket food. I dust them with calcium every 3 days. I also feed small mealworms as well. I put about 10 small crickets into the enclose a day.

My chameleon is a juvenile.

I really appreciate all the help!

I strongly recommend you look at the care resources and follow those instructions for your chameleon. The commercial Flukers products are not very good in terms of gutloading the crix. You can check out the following link to find information on homemade gutload or reliable premade gutload. You should dust your crix like this: twice a month with calcium with vitamin D; twice a month with multivitamin powder; the remaining days should be with plain calcium.

Here are 2 links that should help:

As far as the thermometer, I have mine on the branch under the basking light; the hygrometer in the leaves of the trees where CJ hangs out the most.

Thank you for this information it is much appreciated.

You put the thermometer inside the tank. Mine is a dual one so it does both. As I was told to put it outside the enclosure.

I got a timer for the light fixture but I was wondering if the bulbs I have a correct

I have a Exo-Terra Reptile UVB 100 build and a Exo-Terra daylight basking spot 50w bulb.

The heat bulb and the UVB screw in horizontal and not vertical like I have seen most lights. Is this a problem as if so I can get a dual light fixture that I can put the bulbs in properly.

Thank you so much for all your help!
