Montanes: Mist vs Rain?

I've been prepping to switch gears come May by getting my first montane species - a tq gracilior from @jajeanpierre ! I feel like I'm getting ready to have a baby or something with these few months of prep work haha Putting together a new cage, getting new gear (Arcadia lights and a MistKing :D), figuring out adjusted supplementation and gutloading, gonna start a roach colony... good, busy stuff!

Anyways, to the topic at hand. Recently someone posted about a Rain Dome for the MistKing. This looks really cool, and I like the idea of it, however, I worry that it won't suit the needs of the gracilior. I feel like the regular misting nozzle would work better than the Rain Dome when it comes to providing more humidity and keeping the temp lower where it needs to be when it gets too warm. The mist seems like it would cover more area and control the environment more consistently. Has anyone found this to be the case or am I just thinking too much into it? On the other hand, the Rain Dome would keep the water more contained to the cage, I wouldn't have to poke holes in the lovely new cage, and it would just look super cool raining down!

I would love to get the Rain Dome, but I definitely want what will work best for the cham. I would really like to hear advice from anyone who has seen/used this product and how it effects humidity and temperature, especially with montane species. Thanks!

Hey Maryanne! I'm glad you are getting a gracilior from Janet. You will not be disappointed.

I actually use both the traditional nozzle and the rain dome with my collection. But,I will say that I believe the traditional nozzle works best for graciliors IMO. I have mine set to where it comes on every 4 hours in short bursts. I basically keep the cage moist(not drenched) at all times. Being that this species is from a cloud forest...I feel this is for the best. I have played with various times as far as when the mistking kicks on and for how long. I really feel like Cato does better when his enclosure is wet all the time. There are differences in all species. Montanes are not across the board. My melleri like 45 minute drinking sessions..but they do not like constant humidity. In fact, that can cause health issues in melleri. But, I've noticed with Cato, that he likes the environment to stay wet far more than he likes prolonged drinking sessions.

I hope that helps some. Here is an updated pic of Cato. His back sail is really getting pronounced and look at the blues on his head!! You're going to love your gracilior.
