Ok so we have already talked about how she isn't happy with her temporary cage and that her new one will be here on Wednesday this week, her temps and humidity are fine. But still to no avail no matter what I do will she eat. It's been 8 days that I've had her and I don't think she's eaten anything. I haven't seen her eat crickets although I do put them in her cage. She won't eat worms from me or from her feeding cup. I added another plant and her small laying bin. She won't even go near the bin but look at the picture I have attached. This is her new thing and I don't get it. She goes to the bottom of her cage a few times a day and does this. What is she doing? I'm so worried about her. She is still pooping and moving around the cage and isn't making strange noises anymore or hissing at me when I open her cage but what if she's not eating?

I would remove all that coco fiber. Your cham might eat it and get her sick.

Also, I can't be certain, but she looks gravid and will probably want to lay. Your laying bin might be a bit small as my veilds always like the bigger bins. Try to get a bigger bin in there, or leave it on the ground and have a vine coming down to it.

As for the food, chameleons that are about to lay eggs will go off food. Most of mine will refuse food that are in bins and like to hunt them down. Try just popping a few crickets inside.

She won't go near the bin I made her :( and the big one I made for her new cage won't fit in this cage. Idk what to do. Should I remove the plants and just put in the big laying bin?

She's got eggs and wants to lay. Also, it appears she is rejecting the bin you have provided. Try giving her a larger bin, if that doesn't work, get a large bin that she can't climb out of (garbage can sized) and put a plant in the middle of it. Put her inside and give her privacy, if you have to check on her just try to peek at her from a distance. Mine usually start digging in the morning-noonish.

pheobe

Took out the bark and Big plant and added the big laying bin. As soon as I opened the door she took off. Wanted to roam the room. But my house isn't safe for free range. To many other pets. Hopefully she likes the bigger bin because anything bigger won't fit in the New cage either. Not with room for her plants

How deep is the new bin? Is the sand moist enough to hold a tunnel and not cave in on her? I normally dig a hole to make sure it will hold a tunnel. I dig all the way to the bottom with a spoon. I leave my hole and often my girls would use it.

The pot is 12 inches deep. Yes I tested a tunnel with a spoon when I was making it earlier. Do we leave these in their cages all the time? If so how often do we dehydrate it?

It should stay there until she lays her eggs. You can remove it after and put it back when she's ready to lay again.

I really don't think it'll be in there long enough to dry out if you have enough moisture to begin with. I find water dripping from misting keeps it moist enough.

try to find out if she was kept with a male before you got her. You may have some fertile eggs. GL

When I had her out earlier to change her cage around, I touched her belly. Doesn't really feel like there's anything in there, kind I'd squishy lol. Not that I really knew what I was feeling for. The pet store had her for 3 months and she was kept alone. Before that who knows. She's estimated at about a year old.

Unlikely the eggs are fertile then but who knows. I would keep them anyway as they can retain sperm.

In the third picture provided you can see a bump that is right above her hind leg, I'm guessing its an egg. She looks pretty chunky too for a chameleon that hasn't eaten anything in a while.

good news

so when I came home from work today, ALL of Phoebe's worms were eaten!!! and there was evidence of her digging in her laying bin! there was a hole. but when I poked around in it I didn't see any eggs. I'm just so happy that she has finally eaten and has actually gone into her bin! :)

Make sure you don't let her see you watching her while she is digging. It may make her stop digging and if it happens often enough it can lead to eggbinding.

Agree with Kinyonga, just leave her alone till she's done. If you see a tail sticking out of the sand, just come back after a few hours to check on her.
