More Trioceros

Here are a couple of pictures of Mr. cristatus.
About 4 months into his acclimation here and he is getting kind of chunky!;)
I am particularly happy with the weight he has put on his legs ... they seemed quite thin and frail when he came in (although I am used to veiled legs:rolleyes:).
He is hand feeding and feeling quite comfortable here.
Another species in this genus that I have to control myself with feeding.
It is so rewarding to have him take a roach or cricket from my hand.

edit/addition: His gular edema seems to have mostly subsided (I do think it was the gut load) I am feeding his crickets and roaches a mixture of dark leafy greens now.
Also, the eggs that the female we lost laid on 6/14 are doing well. There are 8 left and they are growing.

Brad he looks amazing,

Now because of the spinal fin, his tail looks very thin, are they all like this? male and female?

and is the tail fairly short in comparison to other species?

i didn't thiink this species would be so impressive visually.

He looks great Brad, his tail is normal. You can check the nutritional reserve by looking at the 2 small "cushens" on their heads.

best regards

The tail is shorter and thinner than you see in many other species.

Hi. Trioceros is the genus (officially still a subgenus) belonging to more than 36 species of chameleons found throughout mainland Africa. Brad's Trioceros comment refers to his recent posts including others species of Trioceros in his collection. This one is Trioceros cristatus.

Cheers,

Fabián

P.S. Brad, what a healthy animal. Good luck on the eggs!

Amazing animal. Do you have any head on shots that show the blue ring on top of his head? That is my favorite thing about these guys. Yours has more red compared the some of the fresh imports that I have seen in the past. Was he that color when you got him or did it show up as he settled in?
