Moss For Enclosure???

Hey, I have decided to make another post because I have seen pictures like the ones below that have moss on the branches and hanging moss.I wasn't as interested in the hanging moss but the moss growing on the surface of the branches looks really nice and I was wondering how to do that if it is safe and what type of moss.Thank You!:D br.jpg

Sorry don't know the name of moss, search online most mosses should grow and be safe if properly secured. I grow moss in my aquarium and use Irish moss as a flooring bed for my chameleon cage. As for branches, I would say something light in thickness and weight.

flooring?I thought you aren't supposed to have substrate.

That is debatable, just make sure it is safe. Scottish/Irish moss is very dense and can grow in low light, but needs substrate to grow. Mine came fully grown in a 18'x18' tray that fits perfectly in my cage.

thats pretty cool, does food ever hide in it?

I don't let food free roam, he is cup fed. Worms are feed on a dish with long legs to keep it off the moss. I've seen crickets escape and they will always climp up something. I do however have a mite problem so I going to take it out and replace with fake grass while the moss is treated outside. Keep in mind my cage has a glass bottom with drainage, I don't know how well a normal screen cage would handle a full tray (15-20lbs) of wet dirt and moss.

Hi there,
I'm a new Cham owner and last night was wondering if painting moss onto Rango's branches would be safe?
It would be a moss/buttermilk/sugar/water mix painted on to the branches and left to grow and get established before putting the branches back in his terrarium
Would the moss help with humidity?

you must have seen the vid/ on FB :p - the thing I would worry about is when they poop, if it hits the branches - you will not be able to "wash" it out - and also , when you mist your cham, watch him , alot rub their eyes on the branches, I would be worried it would let little tiny bits off into his eyes - but , I started to also think- COOL- how can I use this in the cages - lol
you can wrap your cages to help with humidity and add lots of real plants :)

Haha! I didn't realise there was a video! I have a wedding planner friend and they shared pictures of moss painting recently. I forgot all about it until I was thinking about Rango's humidity and how to keep it stable.
We're going to pick up a couple of real plants so I may skip the moss on branches as I don't fancy him getting anything in his eyes, nor do I want poopy moss!

I have credit on the lllreptile website and I called them about the 4 quart green sphagnum moss and they said it was not dead but dormant. Can I soak it in water and grow it or is it dead and not worth it?If not I will get some frog/pillow moss.

This is truly very informative post!! I really didn’t know all this. I am also planning to start gardening in spare time but before that I would like to get my garden inspected to make sure there are no pests over there. So please friends suggest some Pest control Port Macquarie firms for this work!
