most pointless thread ever......

today i went to my local petsmart and they had a new baby chameleon. it was so cute!!! she was only about 2 inches long! i remember when my chameleon was that little. now hes a big fatty. also while i was there i saw a glass "Naturalistic Terrarium" it was the 18x18x24 for $70. the cage looked so big in person! i want to buy it so bad but i still want the 18x18x36 screen cage!

70$ is a great deal for a glass viv. unfortunately, the latch on the door has been said to be an issue and quickly breaks. depending on the chameleon and i guess you the experience you have with controlling climates in glass cages, i say your best bet would be the screen cage.

Petsmart has dropped the prices on the exo-terras for some reason. Unsure why... probably because they've realized no one wants to pay that sort of money for a glass tank with "no functionality" (to those who don't know more about the design itself) other than doors that open from the front.

By the by, try putting more effort into your thread titles. More people will look and it makes it much easier to find on the search feature of this forum

Me I won't use class cages that just me if I use u I would go with a screen cage becouse air could flow the cage

Screen cages are always preffered with chams over glass cages. This is especially true in my case as I live in Florida and keep my chameleon a lot outside in his screen cage for natural sunlight. It would overheat him badly if i housed him in a glass cage out there.

Air flow is not an issue with Exo Terras. Please do your research before making another uninformed comment.

Not always, in colder, dry climates they are very useful. If it didn't get warm here I would use them all the time. There are members in Florida who use these cages, albeit indoors.

i agree with syn. exo-terra's and similar type glass enclosures can be done and used anywhere, it depends on your indoor climate and what you constantly keep your reptile room at. i would stick to exo-terra types (front door and top vent design) with chams but would avoid aquariums with just screened tops. air rises, but front vents help with not only air flow, but heat escape as well for a more temperature gradients.

For the species most people here are keeping screen will be just fine and spending big money on glass enclsure's would be a waste. Pardalis and Calyptratus are not as demanding in their care requirements.
If you are going to get into montaine species glass would be a big help and make things easier.

Plenty of people on here are using or have used glass exo terra enclosure with no problems.. In my opinion though for $70 you can get yourself a nicer 18x18x36 screen cage from a forums sponsor or even in the classifieds.

You couldnt put a jackson in there, theyre montane. D:
Its way too small.
I would suspect you would need to moniter your temps ALOT or have a temp regulator thing :/
Because montane species are very sensitive to heat and if your not careful temps could get out of hand fast in glass :/
Any ways:

That man that post this is very experienced in chameleons.
I cant stress enough how experienced he is, so of course he can pull this off because he knows how to set up the husbandry for a glass viv and he knows
how to see the signs of danger. If you want to do this I recommend you shoot him a PM with and ask for some tips
