Can chameleons eat moths?

I found a moth ... white lined sphinx moth

was wondering if it could make a treat for Mo until we get some new dubias and crickets.

:) thanks.

otherwise, I will preserve it somehow.

They can, but it's not a very good idea to feed insects found in the wild for the simple risk of exposure to toxic chemicals like pesticides and fertilizers. If they ingest those, it can make them really sick or even worse.. :/ If you're looking for a treat, you can try mealworms or hornworms.

I'm no newcomer here--I know full well about pesticides and parasites.

I have 3 bug colonies and had minor success with a fourth but then they all died.

Mealworms are actually not ideal.

I just wanted to know if moths were fine. :)

Awesome!

I put the sphinx moth inside the cage and it flies around and buzzes and it's about as big as a hummingbird :( Not as big as Montys mouth though.

It flew and buzzed around so much that Monty quit trying to catch it and begged to come out! So after he wanted to go back in, I put him back.

The moth is now resting on a leaf and he doesn't seem to see it.

I've fed a lot of moths to panthers- the bigger the better. Sometimes the moths during the day don't move much but come evening they start looking for something to eat and moving more. Then it's dinner time

its 530 right now and it's going crazy flying non stop. :\ won't give monty a chance to eat it

i think I shall just put it inside the calming jar.. then the killing jar. Then pin it.

Then give it to my teacher who is an entimologist

I find that the flying drives my chameleons crazy. All they want to do is eat the flying thing. Haha, it seems to be good exercise for them as they run all over the cage.

Mine loves them.. :D
I would not let fly around too much because moths have tiny hairs that can become eye irritants for Monty and skin issues for yourself.
Nice find!

Mine is dying inside the cage so I expect to pin it when I get home. Maybe it is damaged but its worth it.
