So i just recently received my 4ft DIY cage. It is assembled and now waiting too be furnished! My questions are how in the world do you hang plants and vines on screen? Will it rip it? How do I mount Limbs and climbing vines? I am stumped here? A little secret advice would be appreciated!

Hey :)

I just started doing the decorating yesterday, what I used was a thin wire and tied it around the vines and into the holes of the aluminum screening..What kind of enclosure do you have?

Im using the cages from DIYCages.com.....It was so easy to assemble! It was Cheap and it arrived in a week!!! I was wondering if the screen would rip?
How about the climbing limbs? I guess it will come down to trial and error!

For older chameleons you can cup feed, there's threads with pictures on how to make them, and you can put a dowl across the top of the cage, with wires hanging down through the screen to hold up whatever you like. With some vines you can wrap the wire around it and through the mesh, tie it, and it should be secure if you're using strong wire. If you have a lightweight chameleon then using a vine that's easy to work with you can put a few small nails or tacs through the mesh into the vine.

Ok, so what i do to mount vines is use thumbtacks. Clear thumbtacks do not detract from the look of the cage. You can use several at each point the vine touches the screen. Because the metal tip of the tack is in the vine, there are no rust issues.

I had same question. Advice I received was get jewelry wire or floral wire to tie through screen. Branches can be hung with thumb tacks through ends and screen.

what kind of plants are you wanting to hang? if they are heavy the method i use is take a rod of some sort (pvc, wood, metal..whatever) that goes over the ends of the top and then take some wire and go over the bar and inside the cage with a little extra slack so then the mesh doesnt take the weight of the plant (like a pothos for example)

otherwise ive been using wire from the sides to attach sticks and whatnot as well, i would probably try the thumbtacks of my sticks were a little more evenly shaped though.. havent tried it yet.

I also just recently bought my chams their big boy and girl cages. And it was actually quite easy to hang my pothos. i got 2 peice of poplar that i didnt even have to cut because they already were at home depot, they were exactly 2 feet across so very convenient also pretty strong. i also bought a couple little hooks that screwed right in, so i measured off where i wanted the plant to hang and just screwed it right throught the screen, didnt even cause any damage. my pothos are pretty big and heavy, and also have some rocks to cover the soil, id say 10-15lbs each and they hold just fine. here are some pictures i just took real quick to show ya.

And as far as vines, i use zip ties, they cause a little bit of damage, but hold nice and strong.
