Mouth issues?

ok so try to get him to cup feed... Shake them around in the cup while he is looking at them. Do this method only right now. see if you can get him to fully transfer to this as it will be 10 times easier for you to not only medicate him but to ensure there is not potential for contamination since you are holding the feeding method and it has nothing to do with being in the cage.

Make sure you sterilize the tongs you were using. And be very cautious using these I have seen some horrific things happen to chams that tong feed and end up with serious tongue injuries.
They aren’t metal feeding tongs but I use them way less than I used to, hardly at all. I had one feeding I pulled back too soon and after that I was always wary he could over extend his tongue

Thankfully he’s pretty acclimated to cup feeding as is so it shouldn’t be a huge stretch

Good this will make it much easier for you.

Yeah I think I know the basic approach I have to take. Just have to figure out the logistics of his temporary home. I’m assuming the quarantine cage should still be 2x2x4? And I should sanitize the dragon ledges with peroxide vol 40?

Yeah I’m suspicious of that store they sell a lot of bearded dragons. You think a cb reptile shop would be a bit better in that regard with being careful, but here we are. If I knew for certain Iroh didn’t have it when I got him, I’d probably have a talk with them about it and why they lost my business. But I can’t say for certain and I don’t necessarily want to burn bridges with the only cb shop in my area. But they gave me terrible advice all around from enclosure size to lighting to substrate

This quarantine will actually give me time to put a lot of thought into his permanent cage. I got a friend who does cabinet carpentry and he’s very into the idea of helping me put something really cool together for him. Have to do research into the materials but he said it’d be no problem to make me something with mesh sides a solid back and a wooden frame.
That is a good size for quarantine and yes I also used the 40% peroxide (and still use it to spot clean). I did not break down my entire enclosures bc my boys always go down to the bottom and poop in the same areas. I did throw away plants/branches of course that could have possibly been contaminated.

The vet ok’d my plan to inject irohs feeders to give him his doses

The meds will be picked up Monday, I have to source feeders online but I am hoping I can give him his first doses starting next week.

My last question is if dubia roaches normally carry coccidia? I’d really like to find a way to get them in soon as possible so I can start his treatment before I leave.

I’ll be getting his quarantine setup situated over the weekend

Last question is do dubias normally carry coccidia, I am getting new feeders I want to start treat asap. I don’t know how long it takes them to ship in the mail.

Nope, unless they were directly exposed to an animal that had it so they were then cross contaminated. You can get orders from Dubia.com pretty quickly and they have great pricing. This is where I order a lot of my feeders from.

I just know he’s been gaining weight recently, I don’t want to wait so long the dose is too small. Should I feed slightly less while I’m waiting?

I’m actually out of feeders today I was gonna purchase the last ones I’ll be getting locally later.

I would just feed him while he has an appetite. You can order the Dubia.com ones with faster shipping so I would pay the extra and do that. Then moving forward just buy your feeders from a place like that. I have bought from them for the last 4 years and have never had a parasite test come back positive. But I will not buy from any local places at all.

I really wish they were reputable but I can’t say that anymore.

I know they board reptiles there too now which is also a red flag

Its hard because he could have come to you with this as well. No way to know unless you had fecals tested right after getting him.

Regardless he already has it now. So ensuring he eats is more important. Just go ahead and get the clean feeders ordered so you have those to start treatment.

Yeah I just did this, I got 2-3 day shipping for like 7 bucks which isn’t bad I’m not sure what their processing time is but I’m assuming it’s fairly quick.

I got 50 dubias and some hornworms to start and I’ll be ordering more feeders from them next week. I still need to get him some food for the next few days but I wont be buying local after that.

Just remember to breathe through all of this. I know how overwhelming it can be. Just take it step by step and know that you are ahead of the game because he is not sickly and he has a great appetite. These are both signs that show he will do well with treatment. :)

Yeah and I’m very thankful for all your input, as I was directly able to communicate the course of action I wanted to take to his vet who’s all for it. And that’s very helpful.

All of the things for Irohs quarantine set up are in the mail, I had to source the cage online unfortunately, I was hoping to get it in person so I could start his medicine sooner but I’ll be letting the vet know tomorrow that the plan is for Iroh to start on meds this Saturday to give myself enough time to ensure that I do this correctly.

Your doing great!

I hope that I am, I wish I could’ve gotten everything put together sooner but I figure it’s better to make sure it’s done correctly than to do it hastily and incorrectly.

I agree. Otherwise you will just be more stressed if its half way.

I was thinking about what to do for branches in the temporary cage.

Just for the quarantine period would dowels suffice? I know natural branches are king but I’ll have to secure them without dragon ledges as I don’t have any in the 18” size

I could always secure trellis in the cage but I am trying to keep it bare as possible.

Look into the flukers vines. These are made of a foam like material that would at least wipe clean unlike real branches.
