Mouth rot?

Hello, yesterday I bought a Jackson chameleon. Today I saw something in his mouth, I searched in internet and read a bad word about a rotting mouth. Do you think it is this or is it just a wound from a cricket? Please help!

These are montane species and their care needs to be perfect and just like the care sheet says from lights to humidity or you will have a dead cham on your hands montane are for expert keepers

Thank you! I will be careful with it, I have experience in raising other chameleons. Monday I'll take him to a vet. What antibiotic should be used. I am from Bulgaria and there is not much medicine for such animals.

no no no. you need a vet so he can prescribe the antibiotica. how much and what kind. the amount is related to the weight of the animal. mouth rot kills really fast. he may not survive until monday.

I definitely agree i didnt in any way mean to imply that you shouldnt take the cham to the vet sry if that was thought

If it's mouth rot it needs to be cleaned out and the chameleon given antibiotics to get rid of it. It might be in the temporal gland in the corner of the chameleons mouth. Jacksons are prone to that.

Thank you very much!! Now I'm really worried. In Bulgaria have maybe ten pieces of Jackson. I hope the vet will help. I will go today!

I agree this looks like a temporal gland infection. They can be very hard to cure. The abscess needs to be opened up, cleaned out, and the cham put on an antibiotic. Ask the vet to culture the material from the abscess to isolate the bacteria causing the infection. The med needs to be specific or it may not be very effective. Keep the cham well hydrated during treatment as many antibiotics are hard on the kidneys. The mouth is probably quite painful so the cham may not eat.

I have never heard of Reptaid curing infections, especially mouth rot. So you are saying you had a chameleon with mouth rot and you gave it Reptaid without using an antibiotic and it went away??

Im sry i have read that it works for that and dont have side effects like med no the only problem i used it for is tongue problem and it worked ok

Oh ok. You just wouldn't want to steer this person in the wrong direction and go trying Reptaid to cure the infection without really knowing if it works.

I aggree and i apologized for that the only reason i mentioned it was because they said they live in a place its hard to get meds for animals i was just trying to help and i am sry
