Mr.Gook ( URGENT, PLEASE RESPOND)

Jackoo

New Member
Age: 3 year Old Veiled Chameleon
Feed: Meal Worms
Color: Dark Green (current)
+earlier color was normal (healthy)
+ Was on Calcium for 1 1/2 year

Chameleon roams freely around my room haas his own cage, feed everyday, proper lighting, happy camper!

+ Problem : Found Chameleon hanging upside down from window bar, grabbed him to place back in cage but his body tensed up and his mouthed gaped open. Placed him in his cage but his body was still tense and curled up. I sprayed him with water to see if that would help, and it did for a bit. He tried moving and also grabbed his left leg with his left arm to himself move. Then again he curled up and became tense, mouth gaped open. It's been several hours and I placed him on a heating pad, he has been in the same spot and he will occasionally open his mouth like grasping for air. Need help please:(

* He is not directly on the heat pad, a shirt is in between and on the lowest setting.

That's what I was told to feed him at the pet store, for now it's not even the problem.

If anyone has some type of helping information, I would really appreciate it~

has anyone experienced anything like this? He's like tense and is having a bit like muscle spasms, he's won't let go of me either.

Dude, I really dont know what else to say to you. How are we supposed to know what's going on by you just telling us he's tenseing up? Clearly something was wrong due to your husbandry. You stated he "was" on calcium which shows you really have no clue how to take care of this animal. We can help fix that, but we need you to at least be able to fill out the help form so we can get you on track and see what might have caused this problem. Other than that, go see a competent reptile vet with chameleon experience...

Because I'm in a good mood, here ya go...

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Please Note:
  1. The more details you provide the better and more accurate help you will receive.
  2. Photos can be very helpful.

Thanks, I did follow up on a new post earlier with the proper asking template. Also, if you’re willing to help someone out, help them out because you really want to. Everyone on here is either here to ask for help or help others. Be nice~

Yeah, stopped giving him calcium a few months ago
Why would you even do this? Do you offer other supplementation? Multivitamins?
Does he have an UVB light? And does it get replaced in time? (9-12 months)

Don't put him on a heatingpad if he isn't moving, he could overheat or possibly even burn himself.

You better take the animal to a vet with exotics experience if you want your animal to still have a fighting chance.
While you in the waitingroom I highly recommend you visit the resources section of this site and look up the veiled chameleon caresheet.

Misinformed man, chill.
None of the members above are picking on you...you asked for help but we are not Vets. We can offer suggestions as to what or why your cham is sick...we can offer resources for YOU to read to see what you can change in his current environment. We can only go by what little information we get from you, sometimes that is not enough...he needs blood tests, fecal tests....please don't take it personal. We do care and right now the best information has been given...vet...supplements...no heating pad.
