I currently house three bearded dragons and during my research found that Mercury Vapor Bulbs were the preferred method for UVB and proper temperatures. Will Mercury Vapor bulbs enhance a Panther Chameleon VIV?

it would have to be placed a certain distance away to achieve a good distribution of uvb. you would need a uvb meter and know how much uvb the bulb put out.

Yes and no.
They can be used successfully, But their excessive heat makes placement tricky and the additional height required to do it correctly is difficult due to the already elevated nature of a proper cham setup.
My problem with them is that they tend to come in 100+ wattages, and most of us are using 25 - 60 watt bulbs for heating.
There is also an argument that the chameleon should be able to independently regulate its heat and UVB exposure. The other side of that argument is that reptiles won't intelligently regulate their UVB, and by combining it with the heat in a MVB you are ensuring adequate exposure. I don't know what's right. I'm not a chameleon

I love the MegaRay 100 watt for my beardies, but for my melamine cage set ups it is better to use Reptisun 10.0 and a 100 watt bulb, at 18 inches high I just don't have the height to safely use them, and I can regulate my temps seasonally without reducing UVB. So I use them for my juvie cages where I have more room. I agree a lower wattage would be desirable for some dragon set ups as well as the above mentioned cham set ups.
