my ambilobe started itching his eye??

there seems to be a small scab I cleaned out with some distilled water but he was itching it again today . there is no gunk in his eye or any puffiness. he is still eating like a pig and drinks water but scratches . I know a vet visit is in order . but is there anything else I can do before I spend all that...it doesn't look real serious as of right now.....it doesn't look as bad as member "monsoon" post of his panthers eye infection...the outside of the eye looks the same just no gunk any ideas

Try moving your lights up higher off your cage. Sometime the lights can irritate their eyes. What type of plants are you using. Some plant could also bother their eyes.
