my baby cham hates me

Ive got a male yeman, had him for almost a week, everytime i go near his tank he fires up and hisses and tried to bite, is he always going to be like this, or is there a way of taming him a little? I no there a look no handle pet, but im thinking he'll be a nightmare like he is if he ever needs the vets. Ive tried offering him waxys and bugs but he just hisses and lunges. Thankyou

He just needs to settle in, your cham will get used to you as time goes on. Its only been a week, be patient he will come around.

Im sure he will be fine after a while of getting used to the new home and new noises

I would put his cage in a low traffic area and make sure he has enough foliage so he can hide.

Then after he is settled in you can work on getting him use to you.

I cant get pics cos i dont want to upset him more than i have to, he hates me misting him,or goin anywere near him, should i still do the misting? as i dont want to stress him more than i need 2, his last owner had a misting system, but he didnt pass it on 2 me, he said it was rubbish. He has plenty of foilage to hide in, but ive got more, should i add more? He's always hiding, he swings round the vine and logs and hides behind them, its quite funny how he does this. His previous owner said he took waxys from his hand, but he wont take them off me yet. If and when he settles down ill get pics. As it stands he bloody scares me hissing and lunging to bite like that, as any1 been bit by a cham? as im 100% he will bite me, thanks every1.

Lol join the club joking mine is skiddish as heck but will let me cup feed. but doesn't lunge or hiss. thankfully!


as for can they bite.. well just check out this thread with a picture and decide ;p
if you're not scared by that then you should be good.

other people have said they use worker gloves(leather id guess) to help break them of that.(mentioned in same bite post.

Almost totally agree with you You do know that Chameleons don't have ears, right?
Some Chams never come round though, and that's ok too......they are all wild animals, that's why we love 'em lol

I didnt no they didnt have ears untill miss lilly told me, well she said they were deaf not they didnt have ears. I took my last cham 2 the vets, and well we was there, i was asking questions, and i said were's her ears, and she said there hidden little flap things, so pls tell me, are the deaf, or dont they have ears? The vets i went to is supposed to be a specialist reptile vets as well. Thanks anyway, he's still his usuall hissy self, im gettin really worried now, as he looks so skinny, and he's such a dark colour all the time, and i dont think he's eating much either.

They don't have outer ears.........they still do have the inner ear equipment........how much they can actually 'hear' and how much is felt through physical vibrations (which is what sound waves are anyway......) is not known for sure

I have had a veiled Cham now or Yemen for about two months now. He does not actually like when I get him out of his cage but I usually only do so to take him outside in the morning. When I go and grab him he usually puffs up and hisses a little bit. But I kept on getting him out and feeding him snacks by hand. He does not run any more when I open his cage door and he eats all the time from hand, he also let's me take a few pics of him which was impossible before. It weird but I feel like him an I have like an understanding hahahaha. I won't mess with him unless I am feeding him or taking him outside in the morning, and I do that he agreed not to try an bite me but he forgets ones an awhile our deal and hisses at me. Just keep working with him and give it a lot of time.

well its been 2 weeks now, he is eating, and not hiding as much. I had no idear cham's could bite like that, so im going to have to invest in a big thick pair of leather gloves then? Im not showin my other half the pic of the cham bite, he'd never help me again lol. He's still real hissy n lunging, but ive just left him alone for now.

Was wondering how long should i leave my chameleon before trying to hold her, she is 4 months old. got her 3 days ago and letting her get use to her tank. she kind of is jumpy when i have to grab her poop. is that normal

Give it like a week or two. It is normal that they need time to settle into their surroundings.

I would put the cage some place where he has to be around and see you all the time, but give him lots of foliage so he can hide. if you put him someplace where he does not see you he will never realize you are not going to hurt him he will just see you come around and mess with his home. my cham is right next to my side of the couch and we sit and watch tv and he comes to the cage door it's almost like he comes to hang out with us. he just needs to feel safe however my veiled stayed mean the healthier he got the meaner he got.
