So my Veiled Chameleon, Mango, all of a sudden started to hide himself in the very back corner of his cage, but not on the ground, behind a plant. I am starting to get worried, because now I have noticed shrunken eyes. I spray him everyday and provide a dripper, but it seems like he isn't drinking and I have a bad feeling that he is getting sick. HELP
 
Hello there and welcome to the group. If you could copy and paste this and answer the questions then one of our more experienced Cham enthusiasts will review it and see what we can do.

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

-Mango is a male veiled chameleon, and he is about 3 or 4 months
-I used to handle him everyday, but that was just to take him out on the deck and put him on his plant to bask in the sun, but now it is too cold for that, and I only handle him about every 2 weeks.
-I feed him about 10 crickets once a day(I will be changing to dubias shortly). I gut load and hydrate my crickets once a day for 24 hours with a variety of veggies and fruits and the hydrate from fluker.
-I use multivitamins and calcium with D3 and calcium without D3. I use multivitamins once a week, and same with D3 calcium. I dust his meals lightly with calcium w/o D3 every day.
-I mist him twice a day and provide a dripper once a day for about 20 minutes.
-his feces are black and white, and seem okay.
-he came from PetSmart as a baby

Cage Info:
-my cage is a reptibreeze x-large 4'x2'x2' screen.
-I have a T5ho 24" light fixture, with a 5.0 UVB bulb.
-the lowest temp in the night time is around 65 degrees. His basking bulb is about 85 degrees, and his daytime temp is around 70-73 degrees.
-it is about 30-50 percent humidity in the daytime, and at night around 60 percent humidity.
- i am not using live plants.
- my cage location is on the bottom floor and is not exposed to direct sunlight or drafts.
-I am in virginia, where it gets pretty cold in the winter sometimes.


My problem is listed above in the first post.
 
I am working him back to health before someone takes him in to a better home. We had to have a petcare service come in for a week while we got settled on the move, and apparently they sprayed outside of his enclosure, without opening it, so he is dehydrated, but I will nurse him back soon.
 
Well I don't have my phone on me right now and his cage is on the ground temporarily while the movers get his stand, which they forgot to pack?

Nothing is specifically off in the husbandry... I would work in dubias with the current feeders though rather then totally taking off one and trying to get him to switch to something he has not seen before.

Can you post pictures? What has changed for him and his environment since this started?

He ate dubias with eagerness. But then I switched back to crickets, he's still eating well.
 
Somehow I missed this post. You said you are using both multivitamin and calcium with D3 once per week? So, has he been getting both of them weekly or you alternate using them every week?

Ok so your in the process of a move with him. So his surroundings changed including him going from being on a stand to now on the floor? And now he is hiding since all of this started, correct? If so this is the reason. He is freaked out.

actually no, he hasn't hidden at all. He's enthusiastic to eat, but his tolerance for me has gone way down since the move.
