My chameleon is blind

Breeding chameleons comes with risks and unfortunately my male chameleon Neptune reputured his eye while trying to mate with Venus. He can no longer see out of that eye. This was a really hard video to film and a tough decision to post about but I wanted to make sure I share my experience and hopefully help educate other chameleon keepers. Watch to see what happened and learn about his recovery.

Sending you love. I’m sorry this happened to you all. You have been though the trenches. I do want to say thank you for normalizing all of this and speaking about things that are normally not shared. It creates a space for others to feel comfortable sharing in the future.

"chicken or beef"

That's better than my vet

"cherry or bubble gum"

I went with bubble gum, it was pink, the beardy loved it. Vet said they have a natural sweet tooth.

So sorry to hear about Neptune but your one of the best keepers out there. Your video was done great as always.

That's so funny! I guess that makes sense if they enjoy eating sweet fruits as treats.

I’m so sorry this happened!! You must have an amazing vet!!
Absolutely fantastic team! My vets are a big reason of living where I do. If I move, it would have to be somewhere with a good exotic vet.

Thank you so much!
You do a great job! We are all behind you in support ❤️
Thank you 💚

So good of you to share all of what has happened to both chameleons. It’s always helpful to others to have this type of information…even though it’s traumatic to us to have it happen and to post about it.

If Neptune is blind in the eye eventually, it won’t likely impact him as much as we might think. They cope quite well with it in most cases.

Wishing for the best outcome for both chameleons and that you get some fertile eggs at some point!

Sorry to hear, can only imagine how stressful the ordeal was for all three of you. As others have said, thanks for sharing and normalizing this kind of stuff. Accidents, injuries, and illnesses happen to even the most experienced keepers. Speedy recovery to Neptune and Venus.

I have a blind guy too. He is a rescue (little Dude from Multivitamins) and he has one unsighted eye. Bless his heart, he tries to shoot at bugs but has no binocular vision. When he sees me with food he just sticks the tongue out in the general direction, but always off to one side, and I have to quickly move the (soft, bamboo) tongs to get the bug to touch the tongue so he can pull it in.

He is lucky to have you!

He is lucky to have you!
No it is me that is lucky. He is absolutely the sweetest thing in the world. He is that rare exception, a cham that loves to come out on my hand and hitch a ride to the sun cage. When he is eating, he obviously sometimes drops the bug or has to make a few tries and it is really a partnership. We are both patient and I treasure him.

Beautiful ❤️. I am happy for you both

I want to say you have done a great job on getting them treated and recuperated. two injured st once has git to be tough. As long as Neptune can hunt and eat properly he should be fine. After what you have gone through you are very brave to try and mate them again! Hats off to you. It seems the males are so one track minded when mating, they don't bread the signals. That bite must have had quite a lot of force to break her jaw like that. Sending good healing vibes your way.💓
