My Chameleon Is Growing a Strange Bump

Hello, my name is Shelby, an this is one of two chameleons my fiance an I have. His name is Minion, an he's about to reach a year old. We've had him for about ten weeks, an he's been in really good health. We have noticed this strange bump on his left side, that seems to be growing. We were waiting for him to peel to see if maybe it would peel away. It hasn't, it's almost the size of a dime. We never noticed it before, because (as you can see in the first picture) it wasn't as large. At first it looked like he was about to peel. Doesn't seem to bother him at all, we'll touch or rub it, an he doesn't react. It isn't painful for him, he doesn't try to scratch it. I don't think he even notices the bump is there. It does peel like the rest of his skin, we've tried misting him more to help it peel away. But as I said, it's growing. I'm hoping someone could help us here, we're not sure if it's something we should worry about or not. We are far from a vet, we're trying the best we can to research it but haven't found much. If anyone could help us out here, we all would greatly appreciate it. I want to make sure this isn't something serious before it gets worse. An to help Minion get rid of this strange bump before it grows even bigger.

-Shelby

Welcome to the forums. I think Milton should see a vet right away before the bump gets bigger. If it's something serious you do not want to leave it unattended. The only way to know if it's serious is for a vet to do a culture or biopsy. Where do you live in CA? I might be able to recommend a chameleon vet.

I saw something similiar on here a awhile back and I believe it was some sort of fungual infection. I was trying to find the exact thread but have not had any luck so far. It looked just like that and the fact that it is growing is cause for alarm. Definitely get him to a vet and have it checked out.

It could be a number of things, all of which need to be diagnosed by a vet. Fungal is a concern, as is an abscess/infection, parasite, granuloma, papilloma, or some type of cancer (not all types are terrible). Without knowing what it is we can't say if it's serious or not or what the treatment would be. I'd want to biopsy it.

Yeah we live in Southern California. That'd be great, thank you.

Hi - it's been a while since this thread was active. Hope you and your chameleon are well. I just wondered if you could let me know what the vet said this was in the end? My veiled chameleon has exactly the same bumps and is now growing one on his eye. Will get him to the vet this week but would be great to hear from you before then. Thank you.

Shelby or Chan or anyone else ever figure out what this was? My chameleon has that same exact bump
If your chameleon has the same bump you should have him seen by a vet and have it diagnosed. Ferrit(one of our forum vets) gave you many possibilities of what it might be. Whatever the case, it will most likely need treatment.
