My Chameleon Room.....ie my closet lol

Well ive always had my chams in my closet but since i recently built a much larger cage for my male panther and i got a herp mist, i had to rearrange everything. As you can see, i built the cages and both of them are sealed with water based polyurithane. Leafs cage (my female vieled) is on the right and it used to belong to oscar. I made a square wooden box thing to attach to the cage to raise it closer to the lights and so it will be more flush with oscars. the 4ft light strip houses a reptisun 5.0 and a normal florescent for more visual light. The clamp lights house 100w basking bulbs. Each cage has a 90 degree basking spot at the warmest and the bottom of each cage is 76 +-2 degrees. My herp mist comes on 4 times a day for 2 minutes each. Lights are from 8-8. Misting times are 8:30, 12,4,7. You can see the water resevoir on the bottom right of the 2nd pic. The pump just sits on the floor, doesnts move and stays completely silent and muffled on the carpet. I dont really have a drainage system. I have a tarp and towel down under the stands theyre on to catch water incase it gets to wet but it barely gets damp after mistings down there. Most of the water beads up on all the real plants and the cage will completely dry between mistings. Neither cage has a bottom to it. The plastic shelving they are on has screening (the green kind like the cage on the left has) ziptied to the shevles so the chams cant escape but water falls though. I still put paper towels down to catch the poop though. it isnt pictured but my ball python is on a shelf to the right of the cham cages. The plastic shelf is 6 feet wide and 2 feet deep and i have 2 cages that are 24x24 so i have room for one more cage (my ambilobe female hehe). Ok enough talking now so tell me what you think!

Oscar chillin out in his jungle. Sometimes i play hide and seek with him which can be a pain but i know he has to like it(what cham wouldnt) so im keeping the thick foliage. Plus it keeps his humidity like 12%or so higher than leafs

Leaf really pissed off by the cam. She doesnt mind me taking pics of her when shes on my hand but if i snap them while shes in the cage shes gets pisssssed lol

That looks great Nico, Oscar must be really happy. Did Oscar finally beat that protozoan strike he was under, I think I remember reading he did. He looks absolutely amazing Nico, congratz on him and the great cages as well bud.

Hello, Q for you.
what is that honeycomb shape netting that you use?
i'm intrigued.
do you find it good? problematic?
I am guessing you do not free roam your crickets, since the hole is quite big.

Thanks

Nic,

Looking good man...one thing you may want to think about...misting at 7pm may eventually cause problems, most commonly the URI, because chameleons definately need to be dry when sleeping and most chameleons go to sleep at sunset. Also, just something that you may want to try that I found works, instead of the towl, lift up your plastic and attach it to the bottom up the shelving. Give it a slight angle and put a bucket at the end of it so it drains into the bucket. It will save you some clean up ;)

Nic...I love it man...your set up is a true product of an educated keeper...keep it up!

Thanks alot guys! Glad you all like it!

Kevin- Yes last fecal came out negative for protozoans but ill be taking him back in another 3 months or so for another check. Hes still on a feeding strike, only eating a few silkworms every other day but hes not loosing weight and he just shed pretty well. His grip his strong and hes very active wandering the cage like hes been doing the past couple of months which my vet says it mostly has to do with the season and his maturing. His poop looks great too so im not to worried about him.

Dodolah- The plastic honeycomb chicken fencing is awesome. I chose this over normal screening mostly because its affordable, it ventilates very well, and its impossible for him to loose any nails on it. Oscar wont have anything to do with crickets anyways and since silkworms and superworms are his primary feeders i normally will put them on the vines or branches of the plant and theyll crawll around and do their thing and sometimes i catch him munching on one off the branches. The vines go in a sort of loop at the top and the silworms will walk laps around that loop until oscar decides he wants them lol.

Chris- i appreciate the compliment. Your misting suggestion is really really good to know. Perhaps i should change it to 8:30,12,2:30, and then a 1 minute mist at 5? What do you think of this? Also with the tarp, that was my initial idea but the mist is so fine it beads up on the plants and hardly any water even makes it to the bottom. droplets would just sit on the tarp and dry in like 45 minutes. It doesnt make a steady stream of water to drain into a bucket like i had planned. Alot of the water is soaked into the paper towels too so thats another big reason why the water wont drain in large amounts lol. But i still have some fine tuning to do in the room so i'll probably end up doing something similar to what you suggested, especially when i get my 2nd panther. But thanks again for the kind words!
