My Chams won't eat crickets anymore

Hi everyone! So my chams seem to have stopped eating crickets since I gave them fruit flies (their new favorite). They just wait for more flies. How can I get them to eat the crickets? They may be eating a few while I'm not looking but there don't seem to be less in the cage, what do I do?

Just don't feed, they will start eating. An healthy chameleon won't starve itself to death.

Besides that, you should feed other pray aswell. Chameleons need a variety of food, so not only crickets and FF.

I've tried pheonix worms and silkworms they won't touch them

Our Chams love eating Dubia and they are actually better for them then crickets :) Pretty easy to take care of too! We just keep ours in an empty fish tank with some egg cartons so they can hide. They like being in a dark humid area though. So they are kept in the water heater closet Haha seems to be working! You should definitely try them out!

How big are the roaches? My rudis chams are only 10 weeks old and very small

My veiled hasnt touched a cricket in over 2 years. They can just sometimes go off food items. They are horrible insects anyway lol I just avoid them now for my other chams :p

Hey just thought of this too! We have bean beetles too! They are much smaller than the baby dubia! We were feeding our one baby panther cham them.. She loves them too!!

FYI:

In Canada almost all species of roaches, save for the Blatella germanica (German Roach) are illegal to import, keep and propagate. They are only allowed into Canada for research or display in educational facilities. This also goes for most stick bugs and mantids.

Yes there is a large underground structure for the sale of exotic roaches and other inverts in Canada; inspectors have seized these non-permitted species from stores and private owners and fines given in some cases. Colonies of exotic sticks and mantids, cockroaches and millipedes that are held outside of approved facilities are illegal.

Buying or importing Dubia in Canada you do at your own risk. Also there are enough restrictions on our hobby as it is so let’s not give impetus to the people who oppose it to shut it down over some illegal roaches.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that they're illegal. I'm waiting for my Black soldier flies so I think I'll stick with those and fruitflies

Meal worms aren't the best feeders but if they haven't eaten in a while that's good! Have you tried horn worms? Super worms? I'm not sure what's legal and illegal to bring into Canada, but there are a lot of other more nutritious feeders out there to feed your Cham. Mine can get stubborn too, when the are I usually don't feed for a day or 2 at the most, than offer them a variety of feeders and see which one interests them the most. Try looking at mulberry farms, or Linda's gone buggie, that where I get most of my feeders from. Hope this can help :)

Stop feeding them fruit flies for a few days. Then introduce crickets. They maybe stubborn but not stupid. They will get hungry eventually will eat crickets

My soon to be 3month old panther is sort of the same. Thought maybe might be going into a shed and losing appetite, The past few days. Like he still eats some crickets today 4/9 were left in the feeder cup when I got home from work. Gave him some fruit flies and he ate like 10 very quickly and couldn't be bothered with. Left over crix. I'm also thinking he might be intimidated by them they are 1/4" they were pretty small ones when I first got themm but some have obviously grown. Have expo next weekend going to see what other feeders I can grab

There was one day had 11 crickets and 3 ff's.

So I tried small silkworms, butter worms, pheonix worms and mealworms. I think they ate some of the pheonix worms (unless they escaped from the feeding dish) and I've stopped giving them fruit flies for a couple days so I can try reintroducing crickets
