My Enclosure

Here is my Enclosure for my first Cham. If anyone can give me some feedback on it that would be great. Anything I should change remove anything at all please do tell me. Any suggestions? I just want my little guy to be happy and healthy in his new home. I have a Hibiscus and a Schefflera in there. The hibiscus is dying I think though =[ I don't know why I have a UVB on top and I water it. So let me know what you all think.

Some plants need a lot of light. You can get a 6500k "daylight" linear fluorescent light at Home Depot for very little money and a fixture there also for not a lot of money. Perhaps $10-14 for both things. I have one on my cages and not only is the light great, because it lights up the room and the cage, bu my plants have been doing great.

The cage looks good anyway!

correct me if im wrong but all i see is a heat lamp, and if thats your uvb than that means its a coil bulb witch has to go.

You've styled it lovely, it really does look great.

With regards to light, as people have said it's a bit too dark in there for your plants to grow fully.
Perhaps a stronger or longer uvb tube would be better. What uvb are you using?
Maybe also think about a misting system because that takes away the worry of not watering them enough :)

As said, it does look fairly dark in there and I cant see the UV tube. The tube should be putting out a fair amount of light which would help.

With the plant, did you put any stones in the bottom of the pot to aid drainage? Most people's plants die because they sit it pools of water from all the mistings, so putting a layer of stones will allow all the water to drain through as required then the soil doesnt become too saturated!

I do need a longer light for the top. The women at the pet store told me that using the PowersunUV bulb alone would be good enough but i beg to differ. I want to get the Retisun 5.0 for the top also. I have read that the Reptisun 5.0 is the one of the best UVB lights you can buy. Anyone know where I can buy a cheap 20 inch fixture for the Reptisun? Petsmart and Petco want 35 bucks just for a 20ich fixture.

No he is usually a bright green with a slight tealish color and some yellow. I think he gets brownish when he is scared. I can tell he changes colors due to his mood. I have seen him bright green all the way to almost black.

A question about the dripper. I never see him drinking is this normal? I feel as if he doesn't know where the water is dripping to. How can i tell if he is dehydrated?

Repti sun 5.0 is the ONLY one you HAVE/MUST use.

Get a UVA day light bulb, those are great to give the inside a real look!

Besides the lack of proper UVB lighting, it looks like you're spoiling your cham quite nicely. :)

Wowwww... Just checked out his fat pads, wheres the fat? Lack of nutrients is indeed taking place...

His spine looks to be showing more than usual, is he under weight? What do you feed him? What do you feed the insects you feed him? Do you dust weekly?

That is a beautiful enclosure, I have also had trouble keeping my plants alive, no matter what I do. Does anyone else have that problem? I have to buy two of the same plant and keep one outside and switch them out every two weeks, because after 2 weeks, the one in the cage starts to look poorly no matter what I do. One thing I would suggest is adding more hiding spaces closer to the top. He is going to the top of the cage to reach the heat and UV light (as you said you are using the Powersun mercury vapor which releases both, which is great) but he might feel exposed being where he needs to be to thermoregulate and feels the most comfortable at, but he is completely in the open. So he has to choose between being colder and hidden, at the bottom, or warm and exposed to predators, at the top. Otherwise I think it looks great and I love using Hibiscus with chameleons :)

I just got him a couple days ago. I bought him like that. I have been feeding him crickets. I have had him since Friday and I dusted yesterday. What should I do to fatten him up then?

Yes! I use a UVB tube next to a 6500K tube in my dual fixture and all my plants, including hibiscus, have been growing great.
