My First 3 Weeks With A Cham

I got a 2 year old Panther from a friend 3 weeks ago due to they was moving and wasn't allowed to take him with them =( I'd had experience with pets before, but NEVER a chameleon. I will honestly say I wouldn't have made it through these weeks if it wasn't solely for this forum. It really is a bible of tips, from nutrution, to housing, to breeding and has just a great social feel to it all.

When I got 'Steve' from my friend he came in a 1.5x1.5x3ft viv, from reading through articles and discussions on here I decided to upgrade his viv to a much larger one, with real plants (these previously wasn't housed with Steve, just artificial)

Above is a picture of him in his old viv.

I really do feel he's enjoying his new viv, he's started getting a lot more energetic through the day, constantly exploring (I think to see if there's any more food! He is quite a pig when I feed him). I have included some pictures below to show the progress of his new viv and Steve the man himself, he came straight out onto my hand this afternoon and that's where the last picture comes from =) Hope you all enjoy and thank you to everyone for your input on this great forum!

Steve is a pretty boy.:) It is always nice to know that others were and are helped by the forum alot of us spend some major time on. Glad you will be a regular now.

Thank you both! I will definately be spending more time here, I've never got really into forums in the past but I do really love the feel of this place =)

Super looking Steve :)
iv just joined this forum.. Been a baby veiled owner for nearly two weeks and this place is super useful :)

Awww, well done for improving his life! He's a gorgeous boy. Adding a couple of taller plants will also give him places to hide nearer the top of the viv.

I too, love this forum! There must only be a handful of days in the last four years since I joined that I haven't logged in. It draws in you like chameleons! Pretty soon, you'll be saying 'one chameleon just isn't enough'! Just like the rest of us, lol! I only have one at the moment but I am biding my time and keeping an eye out for my next one! This forum is a wonderful place, and I have made so many friends (and a couple of enemies but I won't dwell on them:rolleyes:) on here all because of my obsession with chameleons!:D

:) Thank you! I have got him a few higher plants, I just want them to grow a little more before I put them in there with him. I'm really starting to like the fact he's been getting brighter most days since i've had him, my friend said himself how happy he was at seeing him so bright when he popped over earlier, because he was missing him :( From reading through the forums and other sources of information on the internet I think his locale is Nosy Be, obviously this is just a punt from myself as i've only been reading into these wonderful creatures since I took Steve into my care. Could anyone confirm this for me from looking at the pictures?

There will always be people who frustrate you on places like this, but there seems to be a much greater percentage of people who are truely here just to share knowledge and help one another in taking care of their chameleons. This is one website I will make sure I visit frequently and have even go so far as to download an app for my phone so I can access it a lot quicker =) Thank you once again everyone for all of your responses :)

I would put the plants in the cage so they can grow into it. I found mine grow better in the cage than out of it. They have light and humidity in there and seem to do well. What plants did you get? I haven't kept Panthers myself yet - I hope to remedy that at some point later this year though!

Thanks everyone :) Miss Lily, I picked up another Ficus and a Hibisbus, i've decided to keep these in my conservatory just for the moment as it very warm and humid in there, however I do have a couple of smaller spider plants that i'm going to place up high for coverage, this should be ok for the time being :) i'm sure it won't be too long before you get a Panther ;)
