My first chameleon

This is Charlie, the chameleon I took in, just brought him home tonight. It was a quick rescue kind of deal, and he will be set up in a new screen cage as soon as possible with live plants.

I apologize, they are just iphone pics for now, my camera was in the car. And the cardboard tube isn't in there now, he slipped on it so I replaced it with the pimp cane. They didn't give me the branch he had in his cage.

He's a big boy! I like his name too haha. I'm glad you're moving him to a screen enclosure, the one he's in just won't due for his age and size, not enough climbing places! Make sure to upload more pics when he gets his new home :)

Congrats Moreau!
I'm glad you helped rescue him. I really look forward to updates on his soon to be new home.
And thank you Julia (RandJReptiles) for finding this chameleon and introducing him to BCRC so he could find an appropriate owner!

damn your the one who beat me to him!!!! i saw the ad on kijiji and was shocked at the setup and i wanted to bring him in, but i just moved to van from vic and didnt have my setup moved here over here yet.

keep me posted on him

Thanks everyone! krazeone I will definitely keep posting his progress and his new cage when I set it up.

He does look in great shape. I think that despite no misting and the small cage, he was fed well and had proper heat and uvb lighting. I received a good supply of superworms with him, but I am not sure if they were supplementing him or not.

I witnessed Charlie snag a superworm out of a dish this morning, I think that is a good sign that he is settling in? His colour is very dark though, is this a sign of stress? I know that with snakes you usually wait for a couple of weeks before handling to let them settle in, is it the same with chameleons? He was handled often at his previous home, except during shed time where he apparently would get a little cranky.

It's always a good sign that he's eating!
Generally for chameleons it takes a few days at the LEAST to settle into their new home.
Dark shades can just be a sign that he is trying to take in more heat. It's like conduction/ induction. When we wear black sweaters we absorb heat, yet when we throw on a white T-shirt it generally means we are warm. What are the temperatures at his basking spot?

I just checked it and it is at 85 up on his perch. I don't have my new lights yet so I'll have to figure out some way to make it a bit warmer.

Since he is an adult he can have a basking temperature of 90F, so that is probably why he is a darker shade then when you first got him.
Cheers!
