My Girlfriend should lay soon...

believe me, chameleons know when you are in the room. Even though, you might be hiding behind a towel or so.
They can hear your heart beats.
Best to leave her alone as much as you can.

Ya, but once she is in it and starts laying then dont even go into the room, you could startle her and she might stop. Then if she stops then she will restart the whole process. If it takes to long, she could become egg bound

So we had to take her out today, she hasnt eaten in almost a week, she had like one cricket on friday, today she ate a few, i was worried about her, she was dehydrated even though she has a mister, so we pulled her out and put her on a plant in the shower. now she looks way better, but still a fatty. she went back in the cage, i saw her covered in dirt today, but i doubt she laid, we also got a timer for the lights so we dont have to go in there.

Vet visit....

She just looks terrible. She hasn't laid, she won't eat or drink, doesn't really move around a whole lot either. I just got back from the vet a few hours ago because she looked so bad and wanted nothing to do with the shower.

The vet gave her subcutaneous fluids, a calcium injection and I have liquid calcium to give her daily since she won't eat but can also try crushing up crickets and giving them to her through a syringe as well. She looks better and is sleeping off the big event. The vet said it was good that i brought her in she needed fluids and to try a different laying medium and start a hole for her.

My question is...

When is the best time to give her the calcium and all that? I don't want to interupt prime digging time.

I hate being this worried. We are so attached to her. :(

She has only been digging for a week or so but it is the fact that she won't eat or drink much of anything and the digging takes so much out of her. We cannot replenish the nutrients that she is expending without forcing them into her...

Ok so the Vet said we have to bring her out and shower her everyday, she will recover that way, shes doing much better, we bought some play sand today, moistened it up dug a starter hole.. and guess what! She started digging like hell, so i checked up on her to make sure she was doing ok, and she was Butt end in the hole, but i checked on her like 5 hours later, she was sleeping in the hole.

So my question is...

Anyone ever caught their Chameleons falling asleep in the Egg Laying Hole?
Is that normal?

Im going to check on her tomorrow morning to see how shes doing

I have had chameleons sleep in the hole at night when they are butt down. She may actually be laying the eggs. Just check on look at her) her without her seeing you the odd time to see if she's alright. I hope she will lay the eggs and bury them for you.

Any update TSIshonobi? I've been following your thread for awhile, I hope she lays soon. You must be going nuts! Good luck and update when you can. David

Thank you dectr6 for being concerned for us. Yes we were so worried. And thank you kinyonga for your advice and your last thread was accurate... we are the proud owners of 22 eggs!

We are ecstatic! What a journey, I must say. :D

Allright!!! Congrats! I was worried you were going to say she still hadn't laid or something worse. How's the momma?

22 eggs is a perfect clutch number. It's good to know she finally layed eggs!! I was getting a little worried everytime I posted on this thread. :D:D Congrats to you!

kinyonga.. You werent even kiding about her being skinny after she laid, im going to post some pics tomwow, "i just joined jenny craig and lost 25 grams!'

Yes shes Doing quite well, drinking, eating, and just being beautiful, she just makes us so happy :)

Thanks so much for all the support everyone. i don't know what we would have done without this forum.

She dropped another one today actually. Is that weird? We thought she was pooping. My b/f checked a little while later and there was an egg laying on the bottom of the cage. It seems okay but what are the chances that the egg will survive?

This happens sometimes. Keep an eye on her for signs of going down hill...it won't be good if she has retained eggs.

Kinyonga, just out of curiosity as I have never bred my chams, can you feel any retained eggs just by feeling with your fingers?

Some people say they can...I have never tried feeling a chameleon to see if she had eggs....just never felt it was necessary I guess.
