My girl's story - longest gestation ever?

Hi everyone,
I would like to share my girl's story with you. She is over a year old ambilobe who recently laid 20 eggs, but I will start from the beginning.

On 28th of October she started digging (poking might be a better word) which suprised me as there were no signs at all that she could be gravid.
Here is thread with description and first x-ray on page 3: https://www.chameleonforums.com/could-she-digging-not-have-eggs-95796/

After a month she still wasn't showing any signs and was receptive to my males. At that point I decided to breed her. She had only been with a male once.
Here is a thread I made at that time: https://www.chameleonforums.com/should-i-go-97807/

After mating she got her gravid colors and after few days I covered her cage waiting for her to lay. But... she didn't show any intrest in the bin at all. She was very active and friendly the whole time. After 1,5 month from mating (yes, 2,5 months after first x-ray) she finally started digging. On January 15th she laid one egg and that was it. On 18th she got calcium injection and drip. After that she was digging again, but no eggs. On 21st she got oxytocine shot and laid 19 eggs. X-ray done on the next day showed undeveloped eggs in ovary (sorry, don't know the medical term for that).

So since first x-ray to first egg, it took her 77 days. Have anyone heard of such a long gestation period?

Eggs are still white (exept one that is dented, but I'm not sure if it was crushed by other eggs or got that way later) so I'm assuming they are fertile. Did anyone tried to breed their females after a month of eggs production?

I have so many questions in my head, I would love for someone more experienced to help me understand... Was it my fault that she had such a hard time laying those eggs? Was it because she was bred too late?

Thank you for your time :)

I have no idea how it happened.....maybe you won't have to incubate them for so long though......:)

what are the feeding times, how much..and waht temperatures are you keeping her at? that can make a huge difference in the time they produce a batch and want to drop it off..

ie. cooler temps, low calcium, and less food will take them much longer to produce a viable clutch that triggers digging.

You beat my girl by at least 12 days! I thought my girl took forever, but dang! Mine took (I think) 65-66 days to lay after the first mating. Maybe yours absorbed the first set and made new ones after the mating?

EDIT: Wait, maybe it was only 55-56 days. I need to go check.

The very first time I bred an Ambilobe female, it took her 73 days from mating. She laid 3 times. 1st time was 73 days, she laid 19 eggs. 28 days later, 14 eggs, 7 days after that, 19 eggs. I'm assuming the 2nd and 3rd times were from retained sperm. The timelines are off, so, I'm calling it a double clutch, not triple.

That's my experience with the never ending gravid state. And mine got picky as far as food goes. I'm sure that didn't shorten anything.

She was eating every day around 2-3 crickets or equvalent before gravid. During egg production I fed her more, at the end she ate as much as she wanted. Her basking temp was 83 or lower (after misting).
She was getting plenty of calcium: I use 50/50 mix of repashy calcium plus and plain calcium. She was also getting liquid calcium few days before laying and a calcium injection.

I'm also wondering if low temps were a problem here..

I remember your story and was thinking that's the longest gestation possible!

Do you remember her temps? Got any idea why it took her so long?

Yeah, my girl only took 55-56 days. Almost 80 days is crazy. I'm still wondering if maybe she has absorbed the ones in the X-rays and just created a whole new set of eggs to lay around the time she was mated? Who knows! You could just have a girl who likes the worry you.

She had another x-ray after month from first one and day or two before mating. So that's not possible, I guess.
Yes, it was a nightmare and my first time dealing with egg laying...
