I, too, am concerned about the number of sleeping pics you have of your cham. A healthy Jacksons should not stay asleep for more than a few seconds after the lights are turned on, or fall asleep on a person's hand. He also looks a little thin and dehydrated to me in that 3rd pic.

Not that you're doing anything wrong or that anything actually is wrong, but I'm a little concerned for your boy :(

No no, I appreciate your concern--I actually just got him about a week ago. Those pics are all from either the 1st or 2nd day.
He didn't really eat much the first few days & I was really scared about that! Recently, I've noticed as the days go on he seems to eat more & I've seen him drink a few times which I was happy about because it didn't seem like he was drinking anything at first.

I also notice he's alert a lot more & its funny because although he still likes to sit with me, he has become a lot more active when he's out of his cage! He wouldn't stay away from the mini blinds the other day.

I haven't had any luck with feeding him anything other than crickets & from some of the posts I've been reading, I am wondering if maybe he's bored of the crickets... But I haven't been able to find any local stores that sell much he can eat, everybody's out of everything except for crickets.

Hello Sarah and welcome, we have a number of people who keep Jacksons so you will fit right in. very nice cham

if you have any fishing or bait shops, they will carry superworms and what nots, you want to avoid meal worms though.

if you order silkies from one of the sponsors you can try those and let them turn into moths

What nots are especially delicious to chams:rolleyes:.
Seriously, the bait stores I know carry waxworms, which are a Jackson's-approved treat (mine loved them). (They also carry waxworms artificially colored with neon colors - supposedly catches the fish's attention - I'd avoid those.)

I tried wax worms in a little dish & he didn't eat them. I tried to put 1 on a pair of tweezers, but he wouldn't take it either so I'm kinda worried.
Last night I bought some littler crickets thinking that maybe they would be more appealing to me because the ones the pet store gave me seemed so big!

On a side note, I saw something in the pet store last night called "can of grasshoppers" they were like dead in a can... Preserved in their own juices <wrech>
I don't think I could bear to open that can--I don't have the stomach for it yet. He did get hold of a moth the other day & he devoured it so I'm thinking the silk thing might be an option...
Why should I stay away from meal worms? I think he's too small for superworms... He's just a little guy!

He can have a meal worm now and again; they're just not very nutritious (mostly chitin exoskeleton, which is indigestible and passes through, like fiber). A newly shed mealworm is lighter colored and its exoskeleton hasn't hardened up yet; they're a bit better.
The waxworms are fatty; can be a good treat (if the cham will eat them), but aren't a staple.
Crickets, silkies, dubia (roaches, which come in all sizes) would all be good day-to-day feeders for your fellow. I haven't tried phoenix worms, but they're a possibility, too. Silkies, phoenix (and mealies) would all likely be more wiggly than waxworms, and might catch your guy's attention better.

Sarah,

Where are you located? I would suggest getting some small super worms and hornworms from GreatLakesHornworm.com if you are in the Eastern USA, or Mulberryfarms.com, if you are in the Western States.

Nick
