My male won't breed.

Hi, Last year I bought a male and three female chameleons.
I've been trying to breed them for a while but my male never showed
any intrest so I got another male and he is even worse.
Also he keeps getting sperm plugs. My males are bigger in length but
they don't eat as much as my females so they are thiner.
Some friends with smaller and younger chameleons have been having eggs.
One of my males gets really excited when I first introduce the female and
jumps on her, gets in the right position, and then just sits there for a while
then eventually walks away. I don't think they are too young.
What could be the problem?
I'm getting really frustrated with my males.
Hope somebody can help:(

do you house all your chameleons together or any? if you have not been told they must be housed seperatly in a SCREEN cage not glass, you have quit a few witch is why i ask. how old are your males and females? so the male just lays on top of the female and doesnt do anything? when they mate it looks likes he is not doing anything and is just on top of her, also if you look in differant angels when he is on top his bottom is touching her bottom so you cant really see anything just him moving every second or 2. it could be that you are present when he is trying to do his thang:cool: and doesnt want to do it whill you present. what i would do is place the one female in one males cage and just watch until he starts to like climb on her if he does and the female doesnt reject him, give them some privicy(dont let him/her see you or they might not mate) that might solve the problom or it could be your males arnt ready as in hes too young that depends on the age of your males. it could be somthing else cause my male and female have mated while me recording them so they oviously saw me.
if you could answers the how to ask for help form someone else can give you a some better info.
hope this helps:D if you have any more questions about veileds just send me a privet message, i have bred veileds and have some of my own.

Yes, I do keep them all seperate in screen cages where they aren't able to see each other. I've tried leaving them alone for a while too. They are at least 11~12 months old as far as I know. Two females have been acting like they really want to mate lately. Just hope they'll mate before the develope unfertile eggs. Thanks for you reply!

I own a completely different species, montane. My chameleons like to breed after a rainy season. It triggers them to breed. Your case might be different, I'd suggest you take up the offer fro some of the more experimented breeders on the forums.
I always thought that you introduce the male into the females cage, but I don't know, I house my chameleons in the same outdoor cage!

Good luck, I'm sure the time will come.

thanks

thanks for you reply. Good news too!
Yesterday I put both chams on a tree thinking the limbs in the cage
aren't strong enough for them. They didn't really do anything so I took
another persons advice and showed the male to the other male...still nothing.
Just for kicks I even showed the pair the other female that male usually is paired up with. First nothing really happend, and then the female I just introduce went crazy and was showing her pregnant colors!! I tested her twice yesterday just to make sure and she did the same thing!! I sometimes let them stay the night together because they get along really good and my male is so shy. I thought the private time together might do them good and what do you know! I'm going to be a mom!! The last time they were together was the 18th so hopefully soon i'll start seeing her get bigger. My dad has bred chams when I was younger and we still have a reptile farm breeding bearded dragons, king/corn/milksnakes and some boas. We used to do leopard geckos too. But this is actually my first time having babies with my very own reptiles. My dad is pretty excited for me too. I still can't believe it. Maybe it will sink in when I actually see her bigger or can feel her eggs!

Congrats, I wish you a healthy clutch. I guess now would be the time to make sure she gets the nutrition/care that she needs. Plan now if you haven't already for a egg laying bin. I have my female in hers and I'm not even 100% sure she is pregnant.

Good luck,
Mikey

For future reference, should someone else venture to this thread seeking answers, I will share some knowledge I've gained:

I have a male who all his life has shown no interested in breeding, and when females are placed into his cage, he shows aggression. Flares up, gaping, angry.

I've tried mating him in the females cage, and on a free range, but it wasn't happening, he showed no interest. It was like he didnt see them.

What ended up working was removing the male from his cage for a couple hours, placing the female in his cage, then putting him back in.... BAM. He was good to go.

This is still the only method that works.

I know this is an old thread but I'm gonna try this method today as my male is 6-7 months and female over a year but each of them show no interest :(

Ive found if there is problems with either in the others cage take them outside on a nice day to a neutral cage or freerange tree an let them go see what happens
