My males a female

I was under the impression my female Sambava panther was a male. I'm torn on whether or not I should keep her. I know their colors aren't as vibrant as males, but is there really a drastic difference? If I do decide to keep her, are there different precautions I should take with her than with a male panther? She's about 3 months old.

females are wonderful! they stay a peachy earth tone color with some having speckles of purple or blue. very cool in their own way. males are just colorful, sambavas are an amazing locale, and from what ive seen, they continue to get color until past the age of two. females will need an egg laying bin when they are carrying eggs.

Depends, A male shows amazing vibrant colors and you don't have to worry about overfeeding because they know when enough is enough. Unlike the females express a more tan/peachy vibe and you do need to watch their diet. Hope everything works out. I have just bought a 2and a half month old male ambilobe panther. His name is REPTAR! How much did you pay for the female because males run a much higher price.

Hard decision. It all depends upon how much of an attachment you have with her and if you want to take extra steps with the lay bin and all. Females are beautiful in their own ways, just up to you if you want what they have to offer over the guys. Decisions... decisions.
Shoot me an email and let me know what you choose to do!

so you know for sure it is a female? Did you contact Scremealons and they confirmed it then? i know I started the ball rolling with that observation and I do not claim to be an expert by any means on that. I did notice everyone else agreed with me though. If you decide to keep her, you wont have to worry about egg laying until about 6 months on or so and that can be possibly prevented with cooler temps and less food. JannB has an excellent blog on egg laying before, during, after etc. It would be good for you to read it.

Females can be colorful too! I had a female who was a beautiful light orange with bright orange bars that turned black when she was upset.

They're are still leaning towards male at this point, but on the fence as well. Either way, they are more than willing to work with me on either decision. But as of now it's a waiting game for stronger indications on the sex of my cham.

why not post a picture of it too see what we might think to whether it's a male or female? You never know. c: Late bloomer? ;)

itl be an awesome cham either way!

At first several people thought my male was female from screameleons also he looked pinkish sometimes. He is definitely male, but i would have been happy to have and loved either one!

As others have said if female you will need an egg laying bin (when older) but there are so many threads and people on this site to help you with it! :)

This is very good to know. At first I was a little skeptical and nervous, wasn't quite prepared for a female. But everyday I am more and more attached. And they're so willing and easy to work with at screameleons, that it's very reassuring. Not to mention I'll have all the help and info I'll need from my fellow friends on the forums. :)

IMO you will become addicted and want lots more anyways so you will eventually have both!:p ...... And then some!

It's true, you'll definitely want another one in no time so I'd keep "her" and just have them give you a rebate or something when you buy a male as I'm sure you paid more for a male. And I say "when" you buy a male, not "if" ;)
