Funny story...I bought about a dozen guppies. Only 5 or 6 were eaten, now they've made peace with him, and I have 20+.

Setup:
56G tank
Self made above tank basking area
Rena XP3 canister filter
45lbs of sand
Some good ole ebay driftwood secured to ceramic tiles under the sand
Java fern attached and growing to the driftwood
Couple fake plants
150W MVB in a large dome hanging from the ceiling
I have a Rena inline heater but I've never used it yet as the water temp is always mid 70's
I've also got a 6500k bulb in a side fixture to promote growth in the duckweed

Thanks! Here's my other two:

55G with two RES:

Oh and a bonus pic of one of my RES. This was 3 days after I rescued him from a Myrtle Beach street vendor! I think he was a tad bit larger than a quarter. :(

He seemed to make quick use of his new MVB bulb lol.

I could kiss you! That looks AWESOME and I'm just over the moon to see someone keeping a turtle properly, instead of in a dirty, tiny little 10 gallon. When I worked at a pet store it was soul-crushing to sell the baby turtles to people who would ask you "can I keep him in something smaller, like a 2 gallon? Cleaning out the 10 gallon is kind of tedious. Also, I don't want him to grow too big."

Great job, he must love it in there.

Thanks! I hear you 100% I actually started out like that and quickly learned rights from wrongs. While I was working as a recruiter in Wisconsin I re-homed tons of sliders and painteds. I saw everything from plastic containers to buckets. One thing was to always make sure the new owner was competent and understood what was needed or already had a great setup. Always cringe when seeing those "amazing turtle" setups sold at pet stores.
