Chameleon Info: Got him from a pet store that led me down the wrong path trying to fix what I can ASAP but I don’t have much money right now for big end items so hope I can do with what I have for now. Pet store said I was fine turns out everything is wrong and I have to try to make due for now I really like my cham and want him/her to be a happy buddy lol. Here are the specs as the friendly people on this forum have said i should list them. I have got a lot of help since then from here and hope that I am getting on the right path. Thanks a lot!
Your Chameleon – Senegal Chameleon. Not sure of the age or sex the pet store didn’t know. Has been in my care for a few weeks now.
Handling – he/she likes to come out and sit on my hand often and stays a nice green color most of the time so im guessing he/she likes to come out. Also my cham will come out some times if I am doing things in its cage but not always.
Feeding – Just crickets for now and I dust them. any amount under say like ten at a time. Theres Not really a schedule he just kinda eats randomly when he wants. I’m going to try to do it at the same time every day from now on. 15 to 30 mins after his light comes on would be good I think. The crickets have been free room in the cage from the start and I know he eats one or two a day in that way. Today I am taking some advice and trying the bowel feeding method to see if he will eat more than one or two, or if he will eat any in this way at all(I’m going to switch back to room if not eating in a few hrs). I gutload my crickets with Flukers orange cube complete cricket diet: Crude protein not less than 3.5%/ Crude fat not less than 0.1%/Crude fiber not more than 0.5%/ Moisture not more than 92%/ Calcium not less than 560ppm. I can also give ingredients if anyone would like.
Supplements – I just got some powder for my crickets for the 1st time as I was led down the wrong path by the pet store they said nothing about this and I don’t think they were gutloading or powdering (They only said I need a UVB). I went out and got the 90g rep cal multivitamins advanced formulation Herptivite with beta carotene. Was told this was an all in one and that’s what im looking for. I plan to get Repashy Calcium Plus Vitamin and Calcium all in one when this runs out I hear good things. I have a hard time keeping my powder on my crickets as well. He eats more at random so by the time he eats one they have cleaned there self’s. I hope there are still trace amounts on them though…. It’s another reason why I am trying the bowel feeding method…not sure what to do
Watering –I use a spray bottle that I picked up new and run filtered water in. I mist down the cage 3 to 5 times a day depending for right now. I just ordered a new open screen cage for him and will start drip when I can. I do see him drinking he sits in my room so I have a lot of time looking at him.
Fecal Description – I Have him set up for a vet check and fecal tomorrow!
History – I don’t think he’s depressed as he hangs out at the top I never really see him turn dark brown and never seen black. He seems to move around the cage a lot when he feels like it. I see him drink and eat from time to time. I do want him to get a little more weight but maybe he’s fine ill know tomorrow.

Cage Type – Hes in a 10 gal aquarium for now. I asked the pet store what was good and they said this was ok (ass heads). I just ordered a 18x18x36 DIY cage as it’s the biggest one I can get on my desk. Its the only spot for him in my small room so I hope this is ok 18x18 is the max space I have. Hope cage gets here soon.
Lighting – I use a repti glo 5.0 13w UVB compact and a 25w zoo med heat light. I run both for 12hrs on 12rs off. Heat is to one side of cages so he can get away when needs to. I hope these lights will be ok for my 18x18x36 open screen as I don’t have money for new lights and light holders right now….
Temperature – It stays in the mid to high 70s during the day and maybe high 60s at night but that’s rare more like 70s at night as well. I live in FL and I don’t run my house that cold so I think hes fine without night time heat and I see on here they like a dip at night.
Humidity –I spray a lot and I just have fake plants in the tank ill be putting real ones in the screen cage for more humidity.
Plants – going to get some. Need some ideas as my screen cage will be on my desk so I can’t make drainage under it. What plants will do good with just misting or where u wouldn’t have a lot of mess.Im going to set the drip up to drip into another container in the bottom but still trying to brain storm the plants…..
Placement –My cage is on my desk next to my bed. My desk sits about 34in from top to bottom. The new cage that’s coming will sit on top of that and will be 36in off the top of my desk. I have high ceilings if I had to guess 12foot maybe just a little less
