My New and First Veiled baby chameleon

thanks a bunch guys! thanks dave for the videos! will watch asap.

Here is a video of my little guy munching down is this considered hand feeding?
I havent been able to grab a cricket and literal. hold it for him to eat.

i'm not quite sure how to embed video on this forum. Or if i even can. So there is the link of him eating. that video was made this morning good couple hours ago... he's so little i haven't noticed any droppings yet.???

No worries it you cant find droppings it took me aobut3 months to find one.

lol i've tried to cath one of the crickets buts it's not so easy... they're small kind of and i dont want to squish the cricket?? plus he's so small lol(my veiled cham)

any tips? :D

to hand feed him so he wont be so afraid of me... instead of cup feeding him. i saved him from petsmart he was in a little box in there lol.

thought he'd be thrilled he has a mansion now lol.

he runs anytime my finger gets near him but he has only hissed once with his back to my finger so i backed off the lil guy instantly....

should i just take him out and try and let him roam or wait till he is bigger or what? it's kinda disapointing that i've only had him on my finger once at petsmart.... :(

WIth hand feeding, just give it time. To catch crickets, I go into the keeper, and pick up a small piece of carton, and shake a cricket into my hands.

thanks camimom i will give it time. no doubt. he is not hissing but he runs from my finger and hand unless i bring in the crickets then he doest have a problem with them around the CUP lol.

Since you guys think he's a male....

I have dubbed him Osiris lol Osiris was green.

No problem. its good hes not hissing, he will figure i tout my cham hisses an lunge at me, but then he gets on my hand and he doesnt wanna let go.
fyi, when they bite, it can be bad. so be wary of tht

lol camimom, would you mind describing in detail how bad the bite can be?

when i was young i took care of my cousins gerbel or hamster i forget when i was little and he broke the skin.

lol can they take off a finger joking i hope not... i read they can pinch and thrash? can they pull off a hunk of skin?? or what? lol i'm kinda been curious about this also.

thanks again!

Lets just say, they can make you need stitches.. and yes, they can take chunks out of your finger.

haha camimom thanks for the link. atleast the person was alright. but it doesnt scare me. good to know. i might get some work gloves then for handling him and hopefully break him like the guy said in that post.

Believe it or not Osiris ate a cricket from my fingers this morning arg of course the camera wasnt rolling.. i hope to catch him today. man i had the hardest time getting the cricket between my fingers and held it there. he nailed it two times and on the third time i had to play it by eye on the third strike i let go of the cricket perfectly and he pulled in and munched! haha i talked softly told to him and told him good boy. then my dog came running in the room thinking i was talking to her LOL.

im off to return the night light. get a pump exo terra mister and his calcium etc. thanks guys!

Glad you arent afraid. not all chams will do damage. it just depends on how friendly they are.
good luck with hand feeding.

One thing BEYOND important is go buy a vapor bulb from petsmart/ petco http://www.petsmart.com/product/ind...-F159-DF11-9DA0-002219319097&mr:referralID=NA

Do not use a coil UVB blub.. It can harm them. This bulb Is the ONLY bulb you need. Make sure you have a proper hygrometer Not those cheap plastic/ cardboard ones.. This is a tool to help keep your cham healthy.

You need to invest in REPASHY superfood for your crickets. What they eat your Cham eats. It's the best pre made cricket food I've used. Make sure you give the crickets water crystals you can also buy at a local pet store. I also suggest REPASHY "hydro load" water crystals. You can't give them water, they drown themselves. Keep egg crates in with the crickets. They will last longer. Keep them at the very least- room temp.

You can not head your Cham crickets bigger than 3/4 the size of their heads. They will eat it anyways and choke.
If you do not have a dripper- lay ice cubes on top of your cage when you leave so it keeps moisture in and they can drink the drips.

Oh. And the whole handling thing is a crock of shit. First of all ANYTHING taken out of it's environment is confused at first.. The more you take him out. The better. But you shouldn't be literally grabbing on them especially at that age their bones are so brittle. But my 11 months old male Yemen is so friendly. If you look at my picture he loves hair as do most really. He will still crawl on it and snuggle/ nap some times if it's already late in the day. They are also highly intelligent creatures who do Remember more than you would believe.. Just for instance we had to give my Cham antibiotics through a syringe and squirt it in his mouth ( rescued it from petco with a respiratory infection) but nOw every time he sees the syringe before I'm even close to his cage he REFUSES to even get
angry/ hiss.. As well I took him outside a few months ago for the first time when the weather picked up. He was pretty freaked out crawling on the grass/ branch and would NOT take his eyes off me even though there 4 other people around and every time I moved back wards he copied me and followed. Moved his head left of I did, then right, up or down. I'll have to find the video and post it. But MAKE SURE YOU LOVE your animal as if it were a dog. Many reptile/ Cham owners are appalled by the personality my Cham has. They think I'm just another weird animal freak until they see it.
