My new chameleon

I brought a year old Male Yemen Chameleon yesterday, I think he's doing ok. I wasn't planning on handling him until he settled down but he sat by the doors of his terrarium yesterday evening so I opened them and he came out and allowed us to handle him. Can anybody tell me if his colours are happy colours? Also he is currently shedding a little on his head and seems interested in food but hasn't actually eaten, is this normal?

He will need a few days at least to acclimate to his new surroundings. The shedding on his head is normal. His colors look good and he is handsome. I would suggest a full screen enclosure for him. Veilds will get on the big side so a 24x24x48 cage can work. Good luck with your new chameleon.

Are you posotive on his age? His casque seems small for a year. That being said every veiled can have variation on the size of it.

I brought him from someone who got him as a baby and she said he was a year in February, would you say he was younger? He's about half an inch between the eyes and roughly 30cm from nose to tip of tail. He's been fed on brown crickets so far but I was advised to switch him to locusts as they have more nutritional benefits. The shedding is coming off relatively quickly so that's not a concern, I was just wondering if that was a reason for him not to be eating. How long should I leave him before I get concerned? I will be switching him to a full screen enclosure but he's been in this since the previous owner had him so I thought it would help him adjust to stay in this for a while. He does ponder around his enclosure and then will come to the doors and paw at the glass so I take him out, is that ok? I know a lot of people say not to handle too much but I've had snakes that did the same and got nose rub if I didn't get them out and don't want him injuring himself. As long as his colours are indicating happiness then I'm happy really, just want to make sure I'm doing things right because he's my pride and joy.
